| Post subject: Mattress Size |
What are the dimensions (size in inches) for a king and queen size mattress? I am moving to Shanghai next month and I want to bring a featherbed mattress top with me. Thanks. |

okay the one I just measured came up 71"wide by 78"long but a caveat - it seems that a standard size can vary here - of the dozen or so queen size beds I know all are slightly different! It's like they make the bed first and fit the mattress as an afterthought- best bet would be to have your featherbed made custom once you get here - having one made of decent quality is easy and inexpensive, that and it will leave luggage space for something else! (bath linens are wimpy here... ) |

The standard mattress sizes in China are different than in the US or other places. Best bet is to move here, then get custom made feather bed. Many bedding stores can arrange to make. Standard King and Cal King in teh US even have varied sizes so...
And Ship's comments about the bath linens are spot on, since they don't usually have dryers here, the towles they sell here usually are really thin so that they can air dry easier. bring luxury bath towels if you will have a dryer here. |

I brought a featherbeds from the US. Standard king size her is a little longer (maybe three inches than US size, so mattress pads, sheets and featherbeds still work fine. The queen size here is also a tiny bit bigger, but US sheets also fit fine. But, for fitted sheets, you must bring the kind which are meant for extra thick mattresses, or they won't fit over the wider bed here. I would also recommend bringing memory foam toppers. They have them here, but for some reason they are much more expensive than the ones you can get at Target. I am assuming that you will have rental furniture--these mattresses are the way locals prefer them, which is hard as a rock.
All of the bedding at IKEA is for European mattresses, which are different, yet! Why not just bring everything you need with you, so that you are not chasing around for essentials. |
