I did the same trip about four years ago. I enjoyed Goa very much. It's a lot more relaxed than Bombay, which I found to be a cesspool. Since I love Macao, I loved Goa. I like the architecture of the beautiful Portuguese churches and the sense of space, minus the throngs of beggars. Be sure to have dinner on the beach. The giant prawns are excellent. If you're not up for all the history and culture, just chill out with a few Kingfishers. Cheap, refreshing, and good. Goes well with spicy food, too. |

Herr Fidel, you obviously have very good guanxi in India to be staying at the Bombay Gym and are in good hands (the Ambassador's!). So obviously you will live it up in style. One tip for Goa though: do go clubbing at Club Cabana. It's on a hill I think between baga and anjuna beaches. The time of year is good, so the place may be filled with all the beautiful people.
And if Sir Fidel maybe so kind, do post pictures of your visit. I miss my maximum city, despite having left it for Shanghai's shores just 3 months ago. |

Not sure about Bombay, but the gymkhana in Delhi has this very peculiar old fashioned atmosphere. The place is rather poorly maintained and yours truly used to spend time there with some business partners and officials wondering why they dont spend a bit of money renovating the place. Same in the ministries. Actually I know where the money goes in India, certainly not for the public good! Are you still going there to open an office, as you posted a few months back, Fidel? I enjoyed running a dual China-India operation a few years ago, as the two countries as so different in almost every aspect (those idiotic European shareholders did not realize it obviously). |

Actually you could learn from my own experience the first time I went to Bombay, my host the dean of a local university took me to see the city. He was a bit of a recluse and took to such interesting places as the aquarium (dustry empty fish bowls, the place smaller than my hometown's aquarium - my hometown has 50,000 inhabitants, not a major capital), the Gateway of India - actually nice without the 50,000 beggars (but that's is part of India and their insalubrious mode of government) and... for a donkey cart ride on the beach. For which he grossly overpaid because he hadnt been out bargaining for anything since the 70s and that wasnt even in India. He then took me for pizza - we had to ask the cook to make a roti and put tomatoes on top. In retrospect, great memories. |
