| Post subject: Xinjiang restaurants |
Anyone tried Ani Bayi, or have a recommendation for a good xinjiang restaurant. I want the full on singing and dancing experience as well as the food. |

There is a good one on Yishan Rd. (SW of Xujiahui subway stop). Best taxi there as it is a far way from the subway. Don't have the name, or exact address. Probably just called 'xinjiang restaurant' or something. Main dining room is on the second floor with kebabs being grilled under a copper dome type thing on the first floor. Have a taxi driver take you along the street and you will see it easily enough (some of the drivers know it anyway).
It is actually part of a chain. Yishan Rd. is the biggest and most atmospheric. There is a very tiny hole in the wall one on Anfu Rd. (never tried it and assume it has no dancing). Then there is one on Shanxi Rd. (just south of Yannan Rd.).
You may actually prefer the Shanxi Rd branch. The prices are higher, the decor is a little nicer, and the dancing is more like an organized show. Yishan Rd. is kind of run down decor, cheaper prices, and impromptu dancing (well, they pretend like it is anyway).
Overall I prefer Yishan Rd. |

Bayi Restaurant is located in HongJi Guang Chang or Hongji Free Plaza on Gongchang Lu...Try the Qiezi Yang Rou(Stuffed Eggplant with sweet n sour sauce. I have to agree with the Overbearing Kiwi. The Xinjiang Restaurant nearby at Yishan Lu/Puhuitang Lu (2nd floor) is probably best for the food and portions; nevermind the singing waiters. The Xinjiang Restaurant located at Shannxi Lu/Yanan Lu is more reknown for its floor show than delectables. Yakexi is just so-so, you can find one on Nanjing Lu across from the Wujiang Lu food street and another on Tianlin Lu/Liuzhou Lu...try the horsemeat; tastes just like pastrami |
