| Post subject: Anyone familiar with Diamond Court? |
My family may be moving to Shanghai in the summer. Our relocation package would put us in the Diamond Court Apartments in Pudong.
Any feedback? |

I worked out there at the start of last year and hardly ever saw anybody. I would look for somewhere in an area that has matured a little more IMO. It's also a fair bit from any subway station although the new metro might open somewhere close to it. There is a fair expat community just down the road in jin qiao though. |

The Diamond Court apts I know of are right in the heart of Jinqiao, which is an excellent location for families. I don't know of that many FAMILIES living there, though, because it is a serviced apt complex. Seems to be mostly young singles who are here on a relatively short assignment, like 3 months-1 year. In the same neighborhood, are Green Court apts (large 250-400sqm) and Phase 2 Green Court apts(across from Carrefour) which are a bit smaller and less expensive. Both of these have lots of families with little ones and school-age kids. |

One of the international schools put their single teachers into that apartment complex. Seems nice enough but for a family you would might be happier someplace else. |

If you can swing it, try to get somewhere else. The Diamond Court apts are okay, but they're not great for a family...no community feeling. There are quite a few other apts in the area and JinQiao is good for families, but work on negotiating that item...Shimao Lakeside, Vizcaya, Green Villas/Apts, Thompson Villas/Apts, Beverly Hills Villas, etc. |

I have been moving to JinQiao are for more than one year. My observation is that JinQiao has a big expat/western community. This is a very good place to live for expats with family (but not at all for those who live here single!) - it looked more like other places in the world except typical (Puxi) Shanghai.
Diamond court is located at the furthest end in the JinQiao "expat" area (not talking about the local JinQiao community which is much bigger at a bit in the north). So one may expect the place is really quiet esp. in the night e.g. after 7PM. My suggestion is that if one can choose may think of living a bit nearer such as (1) those surrounding carrerfour (but expensive area to live in) or (2) in Shimao/Greenhill/Vizcays area (relatively cheaper with similar facilities, but not cheap though - location between (1) & (3)). If one has lesser budget I think (3) LianYang district (many communities to choose) is quite a good choice ( but no house, only flats) because the community is getting very convenient (with carrerfour, lots of restaurants, bakery, closer to metro underground, opposit CenturyPark for jogging/kids recreation etc.). I think for those live in (1) or (2) if they have a car or a driver most of the time then it is ok as the remoteness is greatly reduced (about 20-30 min's drive to People Square or XinTianDi city centre) otherwise it will be really hazzle to move around - even just to go to metro underground station the taxi fare is about RMB12-20 per single trip! |

Not sure what you mean by relocation package putting you in Diamond Court. If this is a temporary arrangement, say for a month or so, then great. If you're going to have to live in Diamond Court for longer than that, it could get difficult. I had a similar package from my firm....they put me up in the Phoenix Mansion (across the street from Diamond Court) for a little bit, and I had some time to find myself a place to live.
JinQiao is a great place, very quiet, good restaurants, bars, there is the Carrefour for your home needs, a great Gym right on Biyun Road, the Pines SuperMarket, etc. But for some reason, I felt rather lonely in JinQiao. In a similar price range, you can find better deals in LuJiaZui or near the Century Park....with a lot more activity....if you know what I mean.
Also depends on where you'll be working....you'd have to look at proximity to work location, whether or not you'll get a car and driver, and things like that. I did look at Diamong Court....the largest unit they have is a 2-bedroom (with 3 beds), and IMO, it was nothing to write home about.....Green Court is a better complex, ShinMao Lakeside is also really nice....and there's some very cool apartments by the Carrefour.
So take your time before you settle in....Shanghai is a place with an abundance of apartments/villas....the supply is by far a lot more than the demand....
