| Post subject: Traveling to Taiwan - does gov't care? |
I have a friend in Taiwan that I want to visit. I have a Canadian Passport and a Chinese Residence Permit. Will having a PRC Residence Permit give me any trouble when trying to enter Taiwan? And will PRC customs give me any grief when I come back?
And I have to go through HK, right?
Thanks for any info. |

One of my coworkers is a Chinese with a Canadian passport - staying in China as a resident (I'm assuming similar to you - although not the chinese part....). He has been to Taiwan several times - no problems that I am aware of.
Yes, you have to go through Hong Kong - very frustrating. Takes at least 5 hours for what should be about a 1.5 hour flight.... |

You do not need to go through Hong Kong, but that is the quickest way. Going via Macao is about as quick, otherwise via any third country...e.g. Japan, Thailand. The route via Okinawa using China Eastern and Taiwan's Far Eastern airlines (FAT) is also OK. |
