Post subject: Chinese opium/ wedding bed - where?

I am in the market for a chinese opium/wedding bed. Similar to the one at the Face Bar. Does anyone know where the best place to find one (does not have to be antique). I have been to several places but either they were too expensive or were not what I was looking for. I would like one that is sturdy with good chinese carvings but do not wish to pay over 20,000 RMB. Would appreciate any input?

Found a nice antique furniture place on Tai Kang Lu, around number 17 i think. Next to Casa pagoda, a modern Furniture place. has several such beds that can be used as seating or if you really are into Opium...Wink

Also another big Antique place called Jenny's on Hong Qiao Rd near Nong Mei Lu i think. They have quite a few things to look at there as well.

Well, we spent an entire week furniture shopping in Shanghai. Best places we found was Hu & Hu Antiques in Minhang and Jun He Antiques in Pudong. However, still not found the canopy wedding bed that we want. Well, we did find one at Annly Chyn's but the price is quite high.

Still looking for any recommendations. We are now thinking about making a trip to Hangzhou or even Ninbou. Our ideal bed would be like the one at the Face Bar.

Walrus.... thanks for the info and the pm. My husband and I will definately check out the place you recommended. I loved the style of the furniture in your pic. If that is your apartment, then I am envious. The more I look at the big canopy bed at the Face, the more I think it is from Thailand and not China.

Another question... does anyone know where to get the silk triangular cushions that are popular in Thailand. I would like to decorate my bed/couch with some of those.

Cheers AG.

It is our apartment but now we have no more space left for any more furniture - bummer.

For the triangle cushions - they are a bit expensive here in comparison with Thailand (saw them a while ago somewhere and thought i will lug them back form thailand next time i go) - havent seen too many around. Was at Ganesa a few weeks ago and they had none, and I know that Asiaview on Shanxi Lu has none at the moment either...

Looking into possibly arranging a guided trip into some of the Beijing warehouses.I hear that there are a lot of those beds there (some with the antechambers.)

Also, since there aren't any triangle cushiopns here;does anyone know of a reliable website to order them from Thailand ?I just didn't want to lug those big things around when we were there and now I wish that I had since we won't be going back anytime soon Crying or Very sad ...

Where is Ganesa located ,BTW?

FYI... below is a pic of our perfect bed...

Very cool that bed yeah!

Ganesa - on Fuxing West Road, near the corner with Huashan Rd. They were recently renovating...next to Ginger caffe.

Another place that has them is Chinese Antique Furniture Artistic Collection, located at 3050 He Chuan Road, near Wu Zhong Road. Be sure to investigate all three levels. Ask for Tommy Tang.
