Post subject: What else to see in Shanghai?

My family (my wife & my 7 yr old son) is with me now in Shanghai.....came here to spend a couple of months' vacation with me.
I am trying show them whatever worth seeing in Shanghai during this time.
Till date we had gone to the following places:
1) The Bund (both at morning and at night) including river cruise.
2) The other side of Huangpu river in Luziazui.
3) Oriental Tower & Ocean Aquarium.
4) Shanghai Zoo.
5) Shanghai Meuseum
6) Urban Planning Centre
7) Grand Theatre
Cool Peoples' Park
9) Shanghai Book City (The book store in Fuzhou Lu opposite to my residence)
10) Yu Garden.
11) Grand View garden & Zhujiajao old city in the suburbs.
12) XiangYang Market
13) Few Malls
14) Took my wife to some bars & night clubs
15)Xuijiahui cathedral, Shanghai Stadium
16) We are also gone to Nanjing, Suzhou, Hangzhou & Beijing.

Please suggest what else can be shown to them in Shanghai?

Jade Buddha Temple
Aquarium
Dino Beach Water Park
Huangpu River cruise
Xin Tian Di - some history there beyond the shopping
Fabric Market - 399 Liu Jia Bang Lu, near Zhong Shan Nan Lu
Dong Tai Road "Antiques" market/street
Nanjing Road Pedestrian street
Jin Jiang Amusement Park
Shanghai Zoo - although note that the zoo here is not up to western standards so there is a lot more reality to see. I personally don't like it.
Jin An Temple
Acrobats show

there are a few places to see it... believe the lycium theatre brings in shows and the shanghai centre has them all the time in the theatre. shanghai centre shows usually start at 7 or 7:30 and you can call 6279-8663 for ticketing information.

another option is to see a performance of beijing opera... could be interesting to see the costumes and styles. there used to be several theatres downtown, perhaps another poster will have more current information. i remember there used to be one at the majestic theater which was/is near bei jing xi road.

the acrobat show ERA is very impressive they have shows every night at Shanghai Circus world. Another great spot is Doulun Lu (not sure on spelling) it is a quite historical walking road, lined with great antique shops, small art galleries and old people sipping tea and playing chess.

I would also recommend Duo Lun, it's about 15 minutes walk from Hongqiao Stadium on Line 3 of the metro. There's an old street lined with curio and antique shops and beyond you can fins a typical Chinese market street with small restaurants.

The island off Shanghai is meant to be nice although I've never been.

There's meant to be a good Shaolin monk show on at moment. don't know details.

Skip Jinjiang amusement park and head to the Suzhou Amusement Park ("Suzhou Disney").

Bigger park, better rides.

Catch the train to Suzhou, and take the #3 tourism line to the park entrance.

Shanghai wild animals park (上海野生动物园) is another fun place to go. Your child could get much closer to some of the natural animals.
Anybody mentioned Shanghai Science and Technology Museum located in pudong? and the century park beside is also the biggest greenland in shanghai.
Zhouzhuang (water village) stands 37 miles in suburban shanghai is better than zhujiajiao which i recommend for sure to foreign friends

i believe that the island is chongming island.

the last time some friends saw the monk performance it was at the lycium theater. there is a great website that lists upcoming shows and events... i can't remember what it is, but perhaps someone will know. has english and you can order tickets.

Hope you had fun at ERA! It's great, eh?

To get to Chong Ming, take a cab to the ferry port in Bao Shan (no idea of the name), and take about an hour-long ferry to the island. There is a forest park there, as well as a village that has opened itself to tourists. There's an entry fee, but it covers a night's stay there, and they don't try to sell you other things! Just walk around and explore the farm land, the village, the way of life. It's fun! Sorry I don't know the details, though!

This is what I really like about the Shanghai Expat. One simple question and the response is overwhelming.

I really look forward to come to Sanghai and explore this great city as soon as I have found the right apartment.

- the meseum on Yin An Lu x He Nan Zhong Lu - there's the skeleton of a dianosure, though the meseum is a bit old and dusty
- the meseum at the base of the Pearl Oriental Tower (no need to go up the tower) - there's whows the historic scenes/development of Shanghai
- She Shan - with a catholic church and observatory meseum at the top of the hill
- Shanghai Film studio

also may consider some of the side trips in nearby places e.g. ShangDong (Tsing Dao, Tai Shan), Huang Dian (a very big film studio where there's hotel inside); Thousand Island Lake in Huang Zhou; Fujian (Wu Yi Shan), Huang Shan (Yellow Mountain)...etc.

For me, that is the best part of visiting the Pearl Tower.

Shanghai Film Studio...I think this is across from my home on Caoxi Bei Lu and Puihuitang Lu. I have walked on the grounds a few times, but I'm not sure if they offer tours or details on the history. Have you read Life and Death in Shanghai by Nien Cheng?
