Post subject: Moving to Shanghai in August - weather comparison to NYC?

My husband is Sr. Project engineer to build a plant outside of Shanghai & we are moving there in August (w/o any children)
Questions:
1. We have lived in Kentucky Humidity, Utah dryness, Boston snow, and now New York City. How does Shanghai compare?
2. I know appliances take different wattage. What do I need to do to accomodate my laptop?
3. Is there such a thing as a 2-3 BR, 2 Bath central AC/Heat apartment in the Hong Qiao area? What is the rent range? Any favorite communities in that area?
4. I am a speech-language pathologist in the US. My private practice is a combination of Accent modification & Presentation skills training for non American-born executives, working in medical w/ folks who cannot swallow or speak 2ndary to medical issues. I have worked with children in many venues over 25 years, yet have not done a lot of pediatric (0-7) in the last 8-9 years.
Which arena would you think would be more appropriate for the Shanghai community?

Thank you so very much for all help!

1.) summers really hot and humid / winters can be wet and cold (usually not much snow)
2.) 220V converter should do the trick, which you can purchase here (although your laptop should work with any voltage)
3.) rent varies depending on the standard you want. i would say 2-3BR in a nice apartment range from USD1500-USD6000 per month
4.) sorry i can't help you with that

Regarding the weather, think New Orleans. I'm from Chicago and thought Augusts were humid there - Shanghai is extremely humid.

1) I'm from NYC but currently living in Hong Kong. We are locating soon to Shanghai. From what I gather very similar to NYC at it's worst (hot and humid) in the summer, similar to NYC with respect to temp (snow does fall but usually does not stick around), lots of overcast/rainy days (too many) and when the wind blows, like Boston (cut to the bone).

2) Your laptop should be 50-60 htz, 110-230v so no problem. I wouldn't bother bringing any appliances since you can buy in Shanghia or Hong Kong (good excuse to visit Hong Kong - more like NYC).

4) You should bring in the dough if you are qualified to do speech modification! I can see lots of CEO types and actors wanting to improve their accents....but i'm no expert.
