| Post subject: Beijing Jeep / Grand Cherokee |
I consider purchasing a SUV and tend to opt for a locally made one.
As I am not a fan nor fond of the "Admiral" and other local manuf, there ain't much more choices other then Beijing Jeep. I like the Grand Cherokee but not sure what the current prices are and if there is anyone who has made good/bad experience with that car. How are the dealerships/maintance shops and what are the delivery times?
Anyone?
Thanks & nice day!

I friend of mine bought a Beijing Jeep in Shanghai about 5 years ago, he curses that decision to this day. Apparently it was a major piece of crap.
But that was 5 years ago, and things change quickly in China. Ask for a second opinion from someone else. |

We now have 8 Admirals in our company. If you are looking for class and comfort, take a pass. If you are looking for a small, reliable little vehicle that can get you where you need to go at a REASONABLE speed, it meets that demand. With the constant beating that vehicles take in China, going lower price and quality was a smarter move for our company. You can buy the bigger, more expensive SUVs and you will get better air, nicer interiors, and more power and speed, but in China, you have a 1 in 10 chance of being involved in a traffic accident, fender bender, or just getting DINGED in a parking lot in the first two years of your cars life. You will find that they repair expensive cars the same way as the cheap ones, and that the repairs are much more expensive even for just cosmetics.
I am a big guy, and we don't have anything fancy to drive in our company. But I can drive an Admiral, and I don't feel like a second class citizen. Then I don't really give a $#&$ what people think about the car I drive anyway.
If I was buying one though, I get the GREAT WALL brand SUV that they sell for 88000 RMB (八万八开回家) |

PhatAV8r has a good point. If you want a cheap ride then buy a local brand SUV. If you want a nice car then buy and import.
The locally made jeep is a compromise between the two, but you are likely to pay a little more and have then a car that isn't much better than the local brands.
Also I second the opinion in Yari's thread, if you do get the Jeep then just go for the 2WD version. Its not like your really going to do much off-roading here in Shanghai. |

PS.
the german automotive club who does tests on vehicles (ADAC) tried out the Landwind SUV in crash tests. They reported that in their 30 year history of automotive crash tests they never had a car perform so poorly as the Landwind. It was especially susceptable to roll-overs. |

at the speeds they drive in town, these cars would be locky if they rolled at all...:p but thanks for tha info.
actually, driving these SUV vehicles really is liek driving a truck and so having truck experience will help greatly. (ie learning to take turns at ungodly slow speeds etc) |

So you're planning to do a lot of off-roading in Shanghai then? |

i heard they were 10k $ US
but the cheaper PLA style army jeep is way over pro-duced and is dirt cheap, like 50k RMB. that army jeep is perfect for traffic warfare here |
