Post subject: swimming with sharks?

A friend told me about an aquarium where you can pay to go swimming with sharks. Does any body know anything else about this?? Where is it exactly, contact number, anything…

I've been there. There's no way I'd get in that skanky water with those underfed sharks.

Post subject: Enjoy!

Diver Sues Aquarium After Shark Bite

A 24-year-old man is suing Shanghai Changfeng Park after a shark in its aquarium bit his ear and head while he was scuba diving.

The Putuo District People's Court held an evidentiary hearing in the case yesterday.

Zhang Liang is seeking 415,000 yuan (US$51,235) in compensation, including 400,000 yuan for mental anguish. Zhang said he went to the park with two friends to dive with sharks in the aquarium on the afternoon of July 17.

Zhang, who is a certified scuba diver, and his friends were accompanied by two diving coaches. After their 15-minute dive was up, the coaches gestured to the three men to swim to the surface of the aquarium. Zhang said at that point a 3.5-meter-long shark swam up to him from behind and bit the right side of his head and his ear.

The bite needed three stitches to close and doctors pulled a shark's tooth from his head.

"I was very lucky. If the shark had bitten my head strongly, I would have died," Zhang said. "Now I suffer from a serious mental disease as I often have visions of sharks."

He claims the park should have had one dive coach for each diver and should have provided protection equipment such as a helmet. He also said the sharks were being fed at the time of the attack.

"The feeding will stimulate the sharks to attack people," said Zhang. "The park runners, who should know sharks are a fierce animal, have the obligation to protect visitors' security."

Park managers said Zhang didn't follow instructions from his coach and he made his ascent too quickly, running into the shark. It has agreed to pay his medical bills, but not compensation for mental anguish.

I am sure you guys go for the excitement, not for losing any part (or your life)....

Good point. Lets do it in the US, where the value of the reminbi gets multiplied by 8.11 .. and you can sue for getting a neck cramp because the shark looked at you funny .. Wink

I'd have to say that if you're an experienced scuba diver that you should know YOU are the main person resonsible for your safety, if you choose to dive with sharks "you take your chances". I'd still go for it!

Well, my girlfriend and I went on Wednesday, scuba diving with the sharks. Smile It's 600 RMB apiece. Our instructor was VERY capable, and made us both feel very safe. My girlfriend had never scuba dove before, and I was impressed with the level of attention that he gave her. I've been diving for 13 years now, and this was the best dive I've had to date. Thanks Aquaria 21!!! We even joined their dive club for an extra 250 RMB, which means we can go into the aquarium or the beluga whale show anytime for free, and all our dives from now on are half price. The staff are friendly and super attentive. I'd reccomend this to anyone with the balls to get into water with sharks, as they are well fed and beautiful creatures, sorely misunderstood both in the wild, and by some close minded people posting on this site.

I agree with Bjand, aquaria 21 has some western management and is a very nice place, so long as one obeys their instructions. Anyone who doesn't heed the instructor's warnings can run into trouble, as someone posted above.

It's entirely fine for some people to enjoy this entertainment, but is it necessary to label others who disagree as "close minded people"??? Valid reason why in Asia, people used to say "Westerners often become victims of their ignorance".
