Post subject: School and Housing ?

Hi everyone,

Will be relocationg to shanghai within 1 month's time. I have a 4 yr old daughter, and thought of enrolling her to Victoria kindergarten, at Hong Mei Lu. Any comments on the school ?

Also, will be looking for an apartment somewhere nearby, would Hong Qiao/gubei be the nearest to the school ? As there are 4 of us in the family, would prefer a 2 bedroom or 3 bedroom apt. Is there any in that vicinity around 5,000 rmb per month, with some expats in the compound if possible.

Regarding the housing, if anyone has any idea, please do give us the name of building apartments or addresses for which you feel would fit our budget and the location we require, as i am not very familiar with shanghai.

Thanks in advance.

There are lots of apartments along hongmei road. In fact, the victoria kindergarten is located within the hua guang hua yuan apartments. I think a 2 bedroom there is around 5000rmb, but comes without a lift and is a little old. Newer apartments nearby will cost more. I think there's another compound call liu jing yi cai that's cheaper and not too old, but it's off hongmei road. There r lots of housing agents along hongmei road. I think some of the agents may do with a little english. Note that the tenant need not pay any commission. The landlord will pay the agent 70%.

Gubei's rental is more expensive... at least 1000USD for a liveable 2 bedroom within gubei. But there is a gubei second phase with lots of new apartments and construction going on. About 15-20 mins walk to gubei. Rental is cheaper there. There's like one agency every 5 mins walk in gubei.
