Could some kind soul help me out here? What is the difference between getting a TP-LINK 108mbps and a CDMA membership fee of 2400rmb per year ???
I want to try out within Shanghai at the coffee bars occassionaly. Which will I need ?
And if I travel within China, taking trains mostly, what will be my options ?
Am using a Dell Inspiron 630m laptop that comes with bluetooth and WIFI (i think), and what is the difference again ???
Do i get another WIFI card or bluetooth card ???
Please make it simple for me, thanks a zillion. |

For most coffee shops etc, You need to have a WI-FI card (offically called IEEE 802.11 b/g) This comes with most laptops. WiFi systems are also called "HOTSPOTS" since you can use them when you come within range of them. Usually to use say coffee bean's WiFi network. you need to be inside coffee bean or within 100m.
CDMA is NOT, I repeat NOT WiFi. CDMA requires you to buy special hardware (most laptops don't come with this). The advantage of this is that you can use it anywhere there is CDMA cellular coverage with China Unicom in Shanghai. You don't have to be in a coffee shop etc. I don't know what the quality or the coverage of this network is though.
Bluetooth is used to connect peripheral devices like another PC or printer or scanner or phone etc. |
