| Post subject: Visa Overstay = ban from China? |
A friend of mine overstayed his work visa by two days while in Beijing. He wasn't fined, but was forced to sign a letter of apology at the PSB. They then gave him an extension for his visa for the last three months he needed in the country.
He's worried that they may deny a tourist visa application in the future. Is this likely?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Just realized that this is in the wrong category. Sorry about that... |

no. lots of people have overstayed visas. as long as the paperwork is signed and/or the fine paid, all is well.
not sure what happens if one has two visa overstays... but with one, he will be just fine. |

transm, your friend has no problem coming back to china again. Unless, the PSB issued him a letter and banned him from entering the country. Three years ago, a British friend of mine was fine 1500rmb for overstaying in china for two weeks. Initially, the fine was more hefty but through a local neighbour of his, helped to negotiate with the PSB and the fine reduced. He was given another 7 days to pack up his stuff to leave the country. And now, he is back again in Suzhou on a tourist visa. |

foreigners with criminal records in China will be banned from entering the country. All the airports in china will be informed about this person's identity and records. |

Quite simple, have a look at this page:
http://www.chinadiscounthotel.com/aboutbeijing/general/visa.html
http://www.china-visa.cn/china-visa-document.htm (price is going up)
Just remember that if your application is in progress you won't be fined, but if your application isn't in progress you will be fined and if the overstay is significant they can ban you from entering China for a period of time! |

500 rmb per day up to a maximum of rmb5000. if one cannot afford to pay, a visit to jail may be required.
as for the number of days it takes for signifigance... trust me... it would take a lot, lot, lot of days. i've been in the psb when people have come in with overstays of over three years.
that's the beauty part of a visa... it can be cancelled/revoked or the application refused for any reason. visa overstays at least generate revenue and as long as the individual hasn't been causing problems there is usually not a problem. |
