there is a good hunan restaurant at maoming road, near the okura garden hotel. good food, cheap, and an experience! also try shanghai uncle (restaurant) in bund center (westin hotel), not too cheap but really good food!!!
as for transportation you can take the meglev train into pudong before taking a taxi to the center, which will cost you rmb40 for the train and rmb30-40 for the taxi!
as for the otehr quastions check this forum as there is a lot of detailed info already out there!
hope you enjoy shanghai! |

xiang yang market should be open til the end of june, so you should be able to take advantage of the moving away/closing down bargains. another market is the qi pu market, which is in the north of the city. you will also have enough time to visit the fabric market and have things made on a rush order if that is of interest. note that it moved a few months ago and is now located on liu jia bang road, near zhong shan road.
ooohhh... the airport is terribly boring! don't plan to stay there any longer than needed! do you need to stay around the airport area? or are you headed downtown anyway? the maglev option as drummussimo stated is an option, but only winds up costing about rmb40-50 less than taking a taxi directly into the city, depending on where in the city you go.
local sim card... think they may even sell those at the airport (they do sell the recharge credits there). i've only been to the customer service desk that is on the departures floor, kind of in the center of the terminal. a small desk. there may be a place that has them downstairs in arrivals too. otherwise, you can find them throughout the city... stalls that sell IP cards, phone cards, newspapers, little glass case stands with loads of phone cards, shops that sell phones, etc. would recommend a china mobile over a china unicom because for some reason, adding credit is just easier.
are you looking for suggestions on shanghainese food or chinese food in general?
free wifi can be found at arch on wukang road, near huai hai road; big bamboo, behind the portman hotel near xi kang road; and a good number of other places. what area are you staying in? |

hi guys, always thankful for the info i can get in this forum - sorry if the questions sound repetitive coz i havent had the time to really search for it. will be staying near nanjing lu/huaihai lu. just think my flight will land me there at about 6am and heard it costs abt rmb250 to get from the airport to my hotel, so looking for cheaper alternatives. anyone knows the maglev schedule? as for the sim card, i was trying to figure if it will be convenient for me to wifi skype or call with a local sim card home as well as around china [coz the other time i had a pretty costly time in taipei msging/calling just a few min]. im just looking for good food, firstly shanghainese, secondly chinese - wats the local goodies to try anyway? |
