Post subject: Longbridge will build cars again.

Millions to be invested at Longbridge

(Filed: 17/07/2006)

Millions of pounds will be invested in the former MG Rover car plant at Longbridge under plans to resume production of the MG sports car, the new Chinese owners announced today.

Nanjing Automobile Corporation, which bought the collapsed car giant a year ago, said the factory will have a key role to play in the rebirth of the MG brand.

President Yu Jianwei said the company will make an initial investment of £10m at Longbridge. Around 80 people are currently working at the plant and more will be recruited when the business develops.

The workers will assemble the MG TF, with production due to start early next year.

The annual production capacity will be 15,000 and the cars will be sold in the UK and Europe, although they may be exported to other parts of the world.

Cars will be assembled from kits of components, supplied from Nanjing's factory in China, which is currently being built. The car will go on sale in the second half of next year.

Nanjing said it was also re-establishing a research and development centre at Longbridge which will work on new models the company plans to launch in the future.

Mr Yu Jianwei said: "Car enthusiasts all over the world can be reassured that MG, one of the great motoring brands, is safe in our hands.

"We are committed to re-building the marque in major markets, with cars supplied from the UK or China, as appropriate."

Around 6,000 workers lost their jobs when MG Rover went out of business last year and there had been hopes that more than 1,000 jobs would be created, following the sale to Nanjing.

That's good news.

What a coincidence, exactly this morning i was talking to one of the ex-managers of MG-Rover.

In less than 5 minutes it became clear to me why automotive industry is so very dead in the UK.

I't all in the mind. It really is.
And even the Chinese, as well as the Germans will hardly get it out.

It's dead in the UK because of manufacturing costs and the fact that unlike other European countries, the British Government will not subsidise industry. You could argue the point that they did give Rover money but it was well down the road to ruin when that happened.

British people not buying British cars was also not helpful.

when some lord f***-wit-double-barrel-fopnteeroy was aked if jap cars would take over.
he replied "no english gentlemean wants a heater in the car, he would simply wear his coat"

this explains y the car industry in uk went tits up and y the scum aristocrats with no brains should be made to sweep steets or do jobs more suitable to them. Barings did u say? nepotism is rampant in UK.

the so called "queen" should be auctioned and pimped out live on international free view tv.
these in-bred kraut russian scum have bled the UK taxpayer enough already

It's not just the quality or the high cost of british cars, it is the common blindness for a world that is changing. It is not just a government that isn't subsidising automotive industry.

It are the unions and political parties that do not want to see the disasterous consequences of their actions,
It are the narrowminded managers, hesitating to take firm decisions.
It are the shareholders who are hardly associated with building good cars in an economic way.
It's the European sickness; not just Britain is suffering from it.

That guy this morning... waw...
So far away from the real world.
But I didn't told him all this, i was trying to be diplomatic.

Do we wonder why China is taking it over ?
