there are some secret stores still in the lanes around there.
It is said that some of the stores will move to Long hua later.have no idea about the exact time.
If you walk along Nanjing Road or Huaihai Road, there will be some person ask you as before"watch, bag,DVD" lol |

I was told that some of the XY vendors have moved to Hongqiao where I spent the afternoon yesterday. The mall (Pearl City) is at 3721 Hongmei Lu. Its second floor has many jewelry shops (pearls, jade, some fine jewelry, and lots of bead-y stuff), while the first floor has a variety of shops: watches, dvd's, silk-covered gifts, linens (some nice things, too!), even golf equipment, decent luggage and handbag selection, PLUS many little gift shops with often-seen and not-so-often seen items. All in all, a pleasant place to shop. The 3rd floor has restaurants and places to sit, but I never made it up there.
I was there yesterday on a guided shopping tour led by an expat who has started a business as a personal shopper; among other shopping services, she leads such mini-tours and is very knowledgeable about shopping here. (Her name is Trupti and her number is 138189 76353.)
[I have no business affiliation--- just wanted to pass on that I thought it was a great idea to have someone lead a shopping outing, esp. if one doesn't go shop as a recreational activity.] |

Call Trupti for the Game boy info-- you can probably get an answer straight away. |

They are still setting it up. It looks like there will be a reasonable sized little market out there in a few weeks. Given that it is close to the new visa office it will probably survive in some form. Foreigners are going to have to walk through the market to get from the subway station to the visa office. What cretin dreamed that one up? Expect plenty of problems with the salespeople, who won't be able to distinguish foreigners visiting the visa office from foreigners out shopping.
I live nearby so soon I won't be able to get to the subway without being mobbed by bag toting f*ckwits.
I practically stopped eating at a couple of decent restaurants (Turk was one) because the hassle of getting in and out of that whole Xiangyang Market area just wasn't worth it.
I can put up with a constant verbal sales pitch, but I really have a problem with salespeople touching me when I am minding my own business in the street, not even in a shop or a marketplace. |
