Why do all these people keep getting kittens then they have to get rid of them? A pet is for life! |

Because people think they're soooo cute, but they forget they grow up. The same thing happens to dogs, they all become a burden and it's sooooo simple to just set them out. Wonder why they don't do that with their children [url] |

about 3 months ago we also got 2 kittens from the street, they were small~ and the weather was very bad. Now they are bigger and fatter, one named Woddy, one is Cocco, very cute. No matter they are small or after they grow up....i always love them , they are always cute for me |

I think more people need to adopt your attitude suziqueen22 or not bother getting a kitten in the forst place. It really annoys me. When you get a pet it's a big commitment. People need to remember that! |

I think it's more the fact that people are constantly leaving the country and I guess didn't consider this when they got their cat in the first place. This is one reason why we have never got a cat, because we know that we are going to leave at some point and don't want the hassle of importing a cat. |

Exactly they should consider this before they get a pet. |

Last month i found out there were getting more and more cats on the streets ( more than dogs) and they really had hard time to find the food. Esepcially the community that i live, there are at least 8 kittens here. I saw one die because of the heat, kittens couldn't handle that type of weather and without food and their mother. My mom start to leave some food in the yard so they can have something to eat there.
I still believe a lot of ppl they love pets a lot, all of us we should bring our pets and meet someday |

The growing number of cats and dogs in the streets is why the government is making a new law that all pets have to be "chipped" and registered, that way they can always find the owner and fines are supposedly going to be enourmous if you set out your pets. |

By the way, we have 3 cats as well and if we're going to move we're of course going to pay what it costs to bring them with us, they're part of the family now and should be treated as such |

I'm glad to see there are some dedicated pet owners in Shanghai. I personally don't have a pet as much as I would love one as I'm only here for a year or two. |

I see there's an advert on the front page for fostering animals for people living here short term. It's a good idea in theory but surely it can't be good for the animal being passed around every 6 months or so? |

If you're referring to fostering pets through the SCAA, it's not necessarily true that the pets are moved around between people. The idea behind it is that one person/family fosters the pets as long as possible until the pet is adopted. We fostered a dog for a month before he was adopted by a long-term expat family and fostered several cats (one temporarily, one who wasn't adjusting well to the previous foster parent, and four as soon as they arrived) until adoption. If anything, it's hardest on the fosterer, who quickly grows attached to the pet. The pet, on the other hand, is usually lucky enough to go from the arms of one caring fosterer to one caring owner. |

I agree with the post above. I took in 3 small kittens because they were borned on a typhoon night last year. And given the conditions of the local neighbourhood that hate cats and a missing mother (due to the typhoon), they have not got a chance to live through that week. On the thought of giving them a chance of finding adoption, I took all 3 in while I already had a dog. Slowly slowly they grow and I watch them while searching for suitable long term family. It soon became a hard task to find good familes. Soon it was time to spray them and being fed well, they were bigger than they should be at the 8th month. By then, it just become too difficult to get someone to adopt them as most people would want small kittens to start with. Now they are with me. I spend a lot of time traveling and working. I tried to look after them as much as I could and spend time playing or talking to me, giving them attention. While I don't feel guilty leaving them at home with the ah-yi to look after when I got to go out for business trips for days....I do feel guilty for not being able to get a good family for them. Also breaking up the 3 brothers to let them go on their separate ways to new families seem rather cruel as they have never left each other since babies.
On the other hand, I keep reminding myself everyday, all they wanted is a chance, a chance to live and that's all they are asking for from me....if I can still provide this for them, I should never stop doing that... |

I didn't plan on finding a wife either....but....(I'm JOKING).
Anyway, not long after we married I also happened upon Bowie. I've always had cats around and really like them. If I ever do decide to leave China, he's going with us, regardless of expense or hassle.
One thing though... and I've come to the conclusion that I'm just going to have to live with it...is a 4x4 cat. I've always had cats declawed (front paws), but I've asked 2 different vets here...and they refuse to do it. Both claimed it to be a very mean procedure. At first I was quite impressed by their compassion for animals, but later thought back on the 1st vet missing the fact that Bowie had a pretty bad case of ear mites...as he cleaned his ears. I mentioned that I thought he had them, but the translation didn't work out I guess. |

There is an excellent vet in Suzhou who does this and he has a WORLD STANDARD ANIMAL hospital as well as WORLD STANDARD KNOWLEDGE (hard to find in China)... I had 4 of mine done and no problems... each day for 4 days after we returned for painkiller injections... THEY ARE VERY HAPPY AND HAVE PLAY SCRATCHING, WITH A VERY SATISFIED LOOK ON THEIR FACES, ON THE SCRATCH BOARD EVERY MORNING..
the number to call is .... (you can take cats on the bus if you have no other transport and you can leave them there for the 4 days post operation)...0512 672 01781 he is at 26 Bai Ta Dong Lu... near the zoo... |

they love to have pet but they hate maintaining them, they just want them if they are fresh, newly groomed. |
