I saw it but in the US not Shanghai. Someone gave me a free ticket so I went but I couldn't wait to get out of there. Personally I thought it was cheesy but it all depends on what you like. I, myself, am not a fan of the broadway musical thing. But as far as cheesy broadway musicals go then it is okay. The costumes are cool. If anyone ever gave me anymore free tickets I'd sell them or give them away for sure.

sally

thanks for your opinion Smile. ditto, I am not broadway musical fan either, infact I have never been to one but I thought why not, lets give it a try Smile as there is first time for everything and guess I get a chance to see the Grande Theatre.

As for cheesiness, I think its a personal taste but be interesting to see other members comments too Smile

thanks once again

M

We just went on Saturday night and I thought it was pretty good. Everyone in the audience seemed to have enjoyed it tremendously, particularly the young children. We had great RMB680 seats, and so the angle was fantastic - dead centre in front of the stage. The characters came down the aisles on a couple of occasions and brushed against those who sat by the aisles. The children were thrilled to bits!

If you can afford it, I think it is well worth the outing! My two cents' worth.

We are going for the VIP seating. Is it best to get the tickets on the day or pre-book them. The thing is we are not in SH until 24th Sept.

Went to see Lion King with the kids age 2 & 5. Had VIP seat, it's a grat show, both sat through the show transfixed to the music and action on stage. If you are taking children, I will suggest they watch the Lion King DVD several times before you take them, so they understand the story and reconise all the music, as the stage version follows the film.

We got the rmb480 tickets, which were just fine. I've seen it in London, and it was so much better there, simply because the stage is tiny here! Didn't have the same affect. However, my husband was quite impressed, and he usually does NOT like musicals. Costumes, and stage settings are great, but there are a couple of slow parts...but still very worth seeing

if you get the VIP seats you should be able to get them a week or so in advance, i wouldnt risk buying at the door. The cheaper >480 seats gets sold out a month in advance.

I had the 480 seats first role on the balcony. VIP might have made it better but the best part for me were the jokes catered for the local crowed. but if you dont understand local pop culture it wont mean anything for you.

interesting, yes. riveting, no. i suppose its more of a kiddie show

Hey, just went today. Had the 660 rmb seats (or something like that). Great seats, comfy too. Took 2 12 year olds and 2 17 year olds. I was worried they wouldn't like it, but all of them loved it! The production is just amazing to watch...some slow parts, but watching how they do the show is just as entertaining as the show itself.

I would definitely recommend seeing it, no matter what age your kids are (or no kids at all!)

Our landlady gave us three 800RMB tickets for Friday night (5th row center) so of course we went!!! We brought our youngest child who is 16, and we all loved it. There is really something for every age level, and the costumes are magnificent. I have tried to get discount tickets several times over the years in New York at the TKTS booth, but it has always been completely sold out. I highly recommend it.

Tip for if you bring a small child: Bring his or her car seat to sit in. We did this with 2yo son, and he was at eye-level with us. Much better. He LOVED it. We had watched it many times before (skipping the scary parts -- it wasn't so bad in the theater). Also, we took him down front before it started to look in the orchestra pit -- all the musicians were really nice, waving, etc.
