| Post subject: Running in Shanghai |
Anybody knows where to find sodium pills, energy gels... in Shanghai?
I am usually running in Century Park which is quite nice and large, but lacks of distance marks, so I do not know my running pace. Any place in Shanghai nice for running and where it is possible to measure the running distance? |

Sodium pills can be found at some watsons and also carrefour. There is some threads about running in Sh. You have to do a search in the sport section. |

Can't stand running on treadmil- so boring.
I took a taxi and asked the driver to drive the route I normally run, based on the meter, I know approximately how long the distant is.
Yeah, I am one of the nut people running on the streets of SH - its fun dodging people and spits and the same time! |

I was one of the laowais on the cycling lane yesterday! Running on asphalt is easier on the knees, than the harder and more uneven pavement... uneven pavement can be very injuryprone! At least when i run on the sidewalk against traffic, i can jump out of the way... Century park is around 4.96-5k... nice even lap, did 31k yesterday.
I never use sodium and just drink gatorade and stuff. Energy gels i buy in HK, and then buy a big box. I will be heading there again in October holiday for a new stash. Running gear is best bought in the decathlon shops close to century park or jinqiao... great supplies of winter and summer gear and clothing... also good shoes. |

the decathlon close to century park is opposite the Longyang Road Subway (longyang lu ditie). It is next to the metro and B&Q. This is basically huama lu and then go past the exhibition center towards the subway... cannot miss it then. The decatlon in jinqiao is in biyun lu (close to the carrefour and b&Q again). |

November 19, 2006
Daning Lingshi Park, 288 Guangzhong Xi Rd., Zhabei District
Background Information
Hope. It would be called, appropriately, The Terry Fox Run.
The first Terry Fox Run in 1981 attracted 300,000 participants across Canada and raised $3.5 million. To date, more than $400 million has been raised worldwide for cancer research in Terry's name.
Each year, thousands of volunteers organize Terry Fox Run events in Canada and around the world.
In Canada, the annual Terry Fox Run is held every September, usually on the second Sunday following Labour Day. In countries outside Canada, the Run is organized at a time that is convenient for organizers.
The Run is a non-competitive event where people get together as individuals, families and groups to raise money in Terry’s name. It is a day of celebrating Terry’s legacy and helping to keep his dream of a cure for cancer alive.
There is no entry fee and no prizes are awarded, although a certificate of appreciation is given when participants complete their journey. Run locations are organized in large urban areas attracting thousands of people and in small, rural communities where just about everybody knows each other. School events tend to be incorporated into the daily curriculum.
The emphasis of the event isn’t on how much you raise, but that you participate in Terry’s memory and help him finish his Marathon of Hope.
As Terry said in 1980: “If you’ve given a dollar, you are part of the Marathon of Hope.”
