I teach, so I usually just eat at the cafeteria in the school. It's kind of hit or miss though. Sometimes good days (ma po dofu, mei gan cai), other days, things I can't even identify, and the boniest fish I have ever seen.
There's also a lot of places I could get xiao long bao and things nearby, but usually if I don't eat lunch there, I just get a juice, and something to snack on.

Walrus - *L* That no food rule would definately not work in my office. Everyone has at least one desk drawer that is full of nothing but snacks, and people are constantly eating all the time. Luckily it's all usually dry snack food like nuts and things, so no gross smells. Although, some of the teachers eat their cafeteria lunch in there some days (when they have to look after the students), and man, it can smell nasty. I suppose that's why we always have all the windows open. Razz

it seems u dont like chinese's canteen ^_^

same as chinese la , if we go to Europe (like my colleagues ), in the first days they were like these foods very much ... but , after some days (say 1or2wks ) they will miss the rice and vegetables very very much and cannot stand the foods what they have to eat ^_*

You eat in my office - you're gone. No eating in the office [as its relatively small with no common lunch room]. Its bloody disgusting if I have to put up with someone chomping on jiaozi or sandwichs beside me [and vice versa]... If you want to eat - then take it outside, thats the rule. No smoking or eating.

Once a girl pulled out a KFC burger and starting woffing it down at a desk near me. I said "Outside - NOW!". She got the shits and threw it in the bin, like a 3 year old... she left the company a while later. Maybe she thought I was a food Nazi.

That said - I like Sandwichs at lunch (usually round 2), no breakfast apart from coffee. It keeps The Walrus on his toes.

I wouldnt want to work with you dude. Lets face it you did it because she is a junior staff. No need to be rude to people.

I think the no food rule is bull feces. fairenough people shouldnt eat smelly foods inside an office but it was just a burger.

take it easy.

Canteen food is not all bad. i worked on a sino chinese project awhile back. naturally the food was upgraded upon their arrival.

The bull feces was that the WHITE americans were given special FOREIGNER tickets, which meant more food and a can of coke. But the locals who worked for the american firm just got normal meal tickets. even the local office director who was chinese got nrmal tickets.

this is not a jab at the foreigners. this is a jab at the chinese! bloody hell, stop acting like this is still the 19th century. these companies are here because they want to be. if you didnt give them food they would still be here because there is money to be made.

I eat in the factory canteen with the chinese. Only the chinese former GM and the current Vice GM get special meals brought to their office. The current Japanese GM eats in the canteen. The food is generally OK not great and sometime not even OK but generally OK.

They make special meals for me (and some of the chinese staff) on the days they serve stinky tofu, pigs feet or fish with all the little bones.

Where is the Melrose Pizza in Waigaoqiao?

Totally agree with you!

The girl did something stupid, but couldn't the guy point it out in a more polite way like you did?

I am surviving with apple and banana... too much mixed saliva swimming on the bowls from everyone's chopsticks, plus the bags of MSG they are using... I simply choose to be be in starvation mode

Starving mode is probably good for losing weight (at least for me). But I just cannot be hungry - can't think straight.

Sometime I bring one of those cliff bars to work (if I have it) and that would be my lunch.

That all depends on you.
If you want to eat healthy and eat right you might want to bring your own lunch.
If it takes time for you to prepare you can eat with your officemate and socialize.
If you are saving then you can eat at the canteen considering that the food is ok.
If you think it's not clean bring your own plate and utenssils. Your co-workers will understand.
Eating out costs a lot.
I bring lunch to the office. Healthy living and you know what you are eating. Saves more.
And you can rest for awhile rather than eating out, where you spend time walking or spend additional fee for the transportaion expense.
