| Post subject: Absent landlord |
We have a beautiful apartment in a popular Puxi development, but the place is totally falling apart and the landlord is nowhere to be found!
-There are ants that seem to be living under the marble floors! we have tried using pesticides, but this is causing discoloration on the marble and wallpaper. Ants are totally unfazed by the chemicals and are only increasing. I have tried every type of home remedy but nothing helps. There are probably millions of ants under the floor...ewww!
-Extensive water damage along walls and rotting wood floors along exterior walls due to shoddy building construction.
-Plaster falling off the ceiling in several rooms due to resettling of the building. Serious safety hazard since it's over the beds (that cannot be moved since they are built-in)
-Numerous other safety problems that are too many to get into here, but the place should be condemned. Instead we are forced to pay a whole lot of renminbi for a sh*t hole!
We have repeatedly tried to reach the landlord, but all of her numbers are disconnected and her Macau address is not valid. The agency that rented the apartment is gone, too. Even the local references that she gave us don't have a valid ph# for her. We think she is a canary that has taken flight...
Normally, I would withhold the rent payment until she contacts me, but we pay quarterly and the payment is not due for another 6 weeks. I think the ants will kick us out of the apartment if we have to wait that long!!! We also doubt that she would be concerned since we have been over a month late before and she never noticed until we called to apologize!
Any ideas about what to do? |

Well your landlord seems to have no problem with money since she didn't notice that you didn't pay for a month,
I guess if that's the case, you can get someone cheap to fix it for you will cost you like a few hundred bucks altogether I'm estimating, and give her the receipts. |

WOW! That really sounds scary. So I guess you don't have the cellphone number of the agent who introduced you to the landlord?
What "popular" Puxi development are you at that would have such a horror story? Is it popular because it is an old community with the rustic look? or is it a popular new apartment complex? |

Try your best to document the situation. For example:
1. Take pictures and print hard copies.
2. Ask at least two people from the management office to come and witness.
3. Ask your Chinese friends to help calling the number listed in link. These are professional companies handling ant problems.

4. Send a register letter to the landlord with a copy to the management office. Keep the receipt.
A third party witness will be helpful and be prepared for a court fight. |
