I was just shopping for beds and mattresses at the Shanghai Home Expo (剪刀石头布)on WuZhong Lu (吴中路)... Ground floor of Pavillion A is the sleeping section... Lots of selections: box springs, foam, all sorts... big brands, small brands, mostly domestic...

Remember to bargain...

the other floors have curtains, wallpapers, furniture, accessories... maybe not the absolute answer to everything for a new home, but a fair start...

Some of their stuff have better looks then some Ikea stuff... all sorts anyway... broad spectrum...

Ikea has lots to start a new home with, indeed... just that when I was asking around about mattresses, a coworker warned me that Ikea's mattresses are a tad short for standard beds (those made by other brands than Ikea)...

I wasn't going to buy an Ikea mattress anyhow so did not check out the numbers... just make sure you do when you shop...

I went to both places (IKEA and SH Home Expo) and found the box spring I wanted at SH Home Expo (they also customize the sizes based on your specification). IKEA does not carry box spring or at least the kind I was looking for. Thanks for all the responses anyway.
