Post subject: Looking for a 0-2200RMB apartment

Looking for a 1 bedroom, 1 living room apartment, not far away from subway, with nice interior. Preferably in a new building or with a nice view.

Please tell me if any such apartment is available.

Thanks

Hi Paul,

Can I recommend you to Shanghai Choice Homes - you can visit their website or write to beck@shanghaichoicehomes.com about your needs and I'm sure she'll be able to help. Cheers!

there are a few hundred thousand apartments in that range. The buildings are old, no elevators, and if they have a nice view, the apartment is already taken. I assume you don't want a dependable water supply, good heat or a/c as well? In your home city, you might call the area a ghetto, but here, it's much, much safer, laowai can live there. The government subsidizes places like for people that don't work, so your neighbors may only be paying 1000rmb, you'll be the rich guy.

yeah, I got my house through them as well. I was happy with the service cos they can speak great english and that makes it so much easier as well. I tried another 2 other agencies before them but was quite a nightmare. You should write to them beforehand so that they can prepare some places for you to view. I think the website is www.shanghaichoicehomes.com....

I was living in Shanghai from september last year to march this year. I had an apartment near Chifeng Rd. Station (Line 3). And several bus lines going to downtown (Nanjing Rd., Bund, People Sq., Fuxing Rd.). Also good connection at night (with night bus). I shared my apartment with another German student. We rented it together. We found it with the help of a local realtor. We spoke Chinese with him (He [of course?] didn't know a single word of English). Our apartment was 2500RMB a month with 2 bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and one bath room. 106mē in the 8th floor with elevator. Clean, quite new building, but not super-modern. We had no cockroaches (which was top-priority for us Wink ). And in addition to all that we hat a great view of the Oriental Pearl Tower from our bedrooms (which were facing south-east). I especially liked that the sun shined into my room every morning. Highly motivating so I can get up Smile All in all both of us we were very satisfied and liked the apartment till the end. The only disadvantage was that the living room was quite dark. But as we spent most of our time either outside of the apartment or inside our own rooms (which were both connected with the balcony) we didn't really notice that.
