| Post subject: Chinese American seeks Mandarin Language Program |
Greetings,
I'm an American business owner considering spending 3 - 6 months abroad in Shanghai to learn/immerse myself in Mandarin (intensive course) as well as an international living experience. I also considered Hong Kong but I doubt living there would be very effective for learning Mandarin. Beijing to me isn't really appealing at all.
Here are my main objectives:
1. Learn Mandarin
2. Chinese International Living Experience
-Never been outside of the US for more than a month
-Know my roots (Chinese American)
3. Seek business opportunities
-I own an automotive parts business in the US w/ products coming from Japan and China and would like to learn more about the Chinese market.
-Look into other business ventures.
I'm looking for a reputable school/program where I'll get the best learning experience for the money. Any input or recommendations is greatly appreciated. |

Hi NTS,
I find it fantastic that you want to know more about your roots,
it's been a motivation for me too, since I'm a mixed chinese.
Do you know some chinese already?
Maybe you want to consider our program, it's very flexible and we have some extra classes in chinese culture like tea making and business.

I'm planning on coming in the Spring or Fall of 07. I do speak Cantonese and very very little Mandarin. I was more interested in an intense program in a school/university environment w/ other students who have the same goal. I will not be working during the hours outside of class so I'd like to get as much Mandarin in as possible.
Thanks for the offer. |

Maybe I could be the help you are seeking for. I had been a middle school teacher for two years and then worked for an automotive company for quite a few years. I believe I can give you some information. When will you be in Shanghai? |
