Hi,
Chinese Singaporean
Just been informed by my company that I need to move to Shanghai Jan 2003, for a year to help train the local staff.
I will move over alone, w/o my wife and kids.
Question is with a salary of Yuen 25,000 half of which will need to be sent back to my family, can I be comfortable ?
All other expenses, eg transportation/housing will be on the company.
Taxes, I will be paid in China, or should I request that I be paid in Singapore ?
Sad to say that though I am Chinese, never been to China.
Travel a fair bit in ASEAN.
Language should not be a problem.
Micheal, I read your posting, been a great help. |

Hi CS...
In a nutshell, 25K RMb plus housing is pretty good. There are English teachers here making 4000 and surviving OK. Even better if you can get your company in Singapore to deposit the portion you want to go to your family directly into a bank in Singapore and only pay tax on what is paid in China. You will need to be paid something in China.. though your ATM card should work for cash. Taxes are covered in detail, thanks to other good members in another post in this board. Use the forum search at the top. Also, read the relocaiton articles. Good Luck on your move!
