Post subject: Is poof a bad word?

I posted that the new James Bond is a poof and it got deleted instantly. Is that a derogatory term? This new James Bond looks like a creepy gay child molester. This dude sucks ass!

Poof is a perfectly acceptable word, as long as it is being used to describe a small upholstered stool upon which one rests one's feet while reclining on a sofa or armchair.

no an ottoman is a chest that you can put things inside not a stool to sit on.

Maybe in England it is, but I know in Canada at least, an Ottoman is a cushioned footstool. You don't have to be able to store anything in it. It can be small enough for only feet, or large enough that you can sit on it. Oh, the wonders of the English language. Razz

Honestly, I've never heard of anyone calling a stool a poof. Only ever heard it for calling a man gay. It's not even in the dictionary for the stool reference. (Ottoman is thought! Wink ) Upon further searching though, I discovered why. Apparently, if it's a stool, you're supposed to spell it "pouf". That spelling can also be used for homosexual.

Acujerjer only thinks about good looks. Sad isnt it?

Ian Fleming, the author of James Bond drew him like this

Image

Fleming also said the following about the character:

Quote:
"I wanted the simplest, dullest, plainest-sounding name I could find, James Bond was much better than something more interesting like 'Peregrine Maltravers.' Exotic things would happen to and around him but he would be a neutral figure — an anonymous blunt instrument wielded by a Government Department”

Remember, the real Bond is a cold killer and a right hard c*nt, not some pretty boy. Which is why Daniel Craig is prefect for the role.

By the way, where I come from the word is spelt and pronounced ‘puff’.

In America, an ottoman is a stool when a stool is not a medical term!

Comes from the French: "pouf"

pouf Pronunciation (pf)
n.
1. A woman's hairstyle popular in the 18th century, characterized by high rolled puffs.
2. A part of a garment, such as a dress, that is gathered into a puff.
3. A rounded ottoman.
[French, from Old French, interjection used for a fall, of imitative origin.]
