| Post subject: local kindergartens anyone? |
Has anyone out there had any experience with local kindergartens? (by that I mena totally local, not one of those inflated half and half ones)
International ones are out out the questions, as is anything with any type of expat price tag attached. Other than home schooling, this is going to be the only option for my kids. |

Not sure about kindergarten but local schools need premission before taking up foreign students (checked the site there are currently about 150 schools in Shanghai
http://www.shmec.gov.cn/web/old/gjjl_article.php?area_id=34&id=3258).
Not sure about your budget but I think you could just check the kinder around places where you live for local or bi-lingual kinder e.g. in JinQiao area I used to met one or two kids attending pure local school (Bin Chang Tian 冰厂田) kinder (with no or very limited English class). My kid attend bi-lingual kinder (actually it is consider as a local kindergarten but could accept foreign/HK/Macau/Taiwan kids) and the cost is around RMB3K a month. I saw quite a few foreign kids in the kinder. |

Sand,
I understand your feeling. I think all we need is creative think place and a neighborhood for ours kids. Other than deluxe international school solution, we can also have low budget and high value solution.
Here is my solution. Start up a mother co-op program. I have 2 yrs old girl and 6 years old boy. We moved back here from California one year ago. I am staring a mother co-op program. We crafted a little kitchen, small wood play house, Thomas table and more. I also shipped my entire children books and DVD collection from U.S.A (almost 1000).
Since I spend lots of my career time in Silicon Valley, I am a big fun for use new technology for kids education. I have a great collection of leapfrog learning system books.
I would like to invite anyone, who believes kids can learn from play, to pay a visit. Iam in Lian Yang area, very close to Carrefour. You can find my address from my website. www.starbugs.cn . Please give me a call when you plan to visit! 135.8568.2060.
