| Post subject: what can i do as an expat's couple? |
My boyfriend juts receibe an offer for going to work to suzhou, near shanghai and i would like to know anything about my situation.
Do we need to be married to be considered as a couple for the inmigration thing?
Can we work? How difficult is to find a job?
If we can not work, What does women usually do while their couple is working?
Is it easy to built our own life appart from the couple? I mean, he will have activities and relations from work, but what about us?
Please, any advise will be usefull! |

I think the first thing after arrival is to be more active and make some friends first. Then will know what to do. |

You could come for a look-and-see-trip first. You have to decide: if you take the job, are you going to live in Suzhou or Shanghai. Commuting every day to Suzhou would be very time consuming. Living in Suzhou is not that big hardship but life in Shanghai is easier, especially for a spouse left at home. So come over to China and spend a couple of days in Shanghai AND Suzhou.
I don't think it's necessary to get married to get the visa. If you're married it might be easier, though. It's important to make sure that the employer of your bf takes care of all the red tape. |

I am in the same situation - my boyfriend works here (we are here because of his job), but I work too, have my F-visa that doesn't depend on his one. I know that if you are married, and your husband has a Z-visa - you can also apply for one based on his. But I don't know what type of visa you will get.
I found my first job in Beijing on internet still being in Europe, but as I decided to move on now- I found a new one from here, already in Shanghai. What I would advice though - finding a job from home can be much better, you can ask for an expat package that includes flights home, medical insurance for you and family, etc etc. Here they will try to force the local hire, which is often very basic and sometimes can be a bitter experience (esp. in "overseas" Chinese, Sino-international companies, don't trust them.. I am speaking for me and many foreigneirs I met here).
Good luck!! |
