Post subject: baby stuff - what to buy abroad and what to buy in SH?

Shanghai moms and dads, for those who had babies in Shanghai, which types of the newborn basics did you import/take with you from home versus those you purchased in Shanghai? Or in hindsight, which did you wish you had bought at home? I'm on my last trip home, except we left in a hurry so I didn't have a chance to finish my research into what is preferable to buy in town. And as a first-time mom to be, I'm also clueless as to what exactly we will need, so any advice would be appreciated (ie, should I get a stroller while I am home - and if yes, which one? bouncy seat? sling? bottles/pumps? the list goes on!!). I've read some of the "baby product" threads on this site, but unfortunately I'm short on time to look through every one, so thought I would bring up the topic again.

Thanks in advance!

Good question you have here Wink

I'm sure the answers depend on where we come from. I come from Scandinavia, so my needs might differ from someone's who's from the States f.ex.

These are the things I bought/brought from home or Hongkong/Singapore, I have a 5 week-old at home, our first child

- strollers: western brands are much more expensive here than f.ex. in HK or Singapore (or in Europe), I've heard good comments about the Chinese brand "Good baby", we bought ours in Mothercare in Singapore

- all lotions for the baby: I use only pharmacy products from back home, they are fragrance free

- dipers for the night time: I ask people bring some over from back home, because PAMPERS brand is so much better made (thicker and absorbs better) in Scandinavia than here, but, I also use the ones made for Asian market

- clothes for new born: I bought back home and in HK and Singapore, it was very difficult to find anything I liked or anything at all here in Shanghai. Maybe I didn't go to right places, but I was really active in searching them

- thick winter gear for the baby, when she's in the stroller outside: I bought these back home, but hey, I come from Scandinavia, our stuff is really good...

- milk bottles, breast pumps etc: AVENT, a British brand for babies, is available in many places in Shanghai, f.ex. in City Plaza in Nangjing Lu, Next Age (Ba Bai Ban) in Pudong, the big shopping malls in Xujiahui...

- car seat for the baby: difficult to find a good one in Shanghai, we bought back home
