Post subject: Anyone been to Qingpu?

Understand that Qingpu is not far from Shanghai. How do you get there and how long is the journey? What is interesting there? Is Zhouzhuang or Xi Tang along the way? Thinking of hitting these places at the same time if they are not too far away.

Qingpu itself is a craphole. Zhouzhuang is not far away from there, and is nice to visit. It has all the characteristics of a nice water village, without the stench of Suzhou. A bit tacky, like most tourist attractions here, but all in all nice for a day away from the city. We used to make bike tours around the lake(s) there with Bohdi (the mountainbike shop)

There is a place called Oriental Green Boat in the Qinpu area that is a bizarro-world version of a western theme park. It has a scale model aircraft carrier, tributes to scientists, explorers and the greats of Chinese history. My favorite part is the world village that has houses that are supposed to be from all over the world but are built in basically the same style: chinese concrete construction, even the American Log Cabin. They have some agility/ropes course stuff and some garden areas. They also have some dragon boat stuff there too.

I like Zhouzhuang since it is self contained unlike Suzhou where you most travel from one sight to another.

By scale model I mean: 3/4 scale so it is still huge. They also have decommisioned aircraft (mostly military), tanks, amphibious attack vehicles, rockets, howitzers, and other stuff. Some of the vehicles are functional and are run through a small water feature.

Take a cab, it should be about 30 minutes and less than RMB100.
