| Post subject: Do you really know what's safe to eat? |
http://money.aol.com/special/is-it-safe-to-eat-quiz
For example, if your ground meant turns grey, is it bad? Should you eat pizza that has been sitting out one night?
I admit I am not a food expert, but I missed the first 6 out of 6 questions, and I thought the answers were obvious! Try it. Some things may a western/USA bias based on the way foods are labeled and packaged there. |

woo hoo!! 10/11. i guess my voluntary slavery in the food industry has taught me something...
but the spices/herbs one is questionable. they are still safe, but lose their potency....
thanks, coffee. more! |

5 / 11 is enough, the essentials were ok. Some questions are only applicable if you're under 4 or over 80 years old. Canned food...i've opening cans 10 years after expiration and they were still fine....don't believe what the food industry tells, especially not when you've been in Shanghai for a few years. |

Got 7/11, not too bad. But with all the alarms about paint in eggs etc. here in China I do not think any of these questions are the danger... |

^ I'm guessing this was a 'western' test, what would a local test look like? |

How long can meat be left sitting out in an un-refrigerated market stall, and still be safe to eat ?
How many times can the cook pick his nose before you should feel obligated to turn down any meals he serves you ? How much chicken poop can remain stuck on the eggs in the grocery store bin and still be safe to eat ? |

yeah, Robtch. i got questions too...
Is it safe to go to a restaurant if you see the chef gargling spit and snot out on the the street from the kitchen?
Are the 1 kwai yang rou chuan (lambsticks) made of cat meat or ratmeat?
Would hotpot at body temperature be safe to eat after a few drinks and lots of chilli?
Is there something wrong if all your pals Except you get explosive diarrhaea after that cheap Chinese all-you-can-eat buffet last nite? |

I got 6/10, and I was a cook for 7 years,
3 of those, a 1st-cook at a high end country club.
I guess we should all be going over to Aquagirl's place for our dinners. |

ha ha haaaa!
well, i'm certainly not eating at any of your houses!
i have so many food horror stories in my memory, it's not funny. domesticated animals butchered on the same counters with the same knives as wild game. food put out on tables for hours and then put back in original containers to be used again. waitresses and chefs wearing their aprons into the bathrooms... not so horrorshow until you really start thinking about it, and thinking about all that happens that no one sees....
travelinjack, i hope that pizza was stored in the fridge... |

I don't like cold pizza. I ONLY eat it if its been left out. Room temp all the way for me. Who refrigerates peanut butter? And why are eggs refrigerated - the chickens aren't. |

Well, I got 9 out of 11. But then the questions are really simple. It's just common sense and basic hygiene as far as I'm concerned. |
