Post subject: where to buy and what to see...

Hallo Shanghai-Freaks Very Happy .
We're going to Shanghai next week and have never been there before. I wondered if a few of you might take the time and go through my programme and perhaps make a few suggestions yourself. Unfortunatly we only have 9 days in the city but we won't mind running like cracy.
Here is what we have planed to do: ride the maglev train, go to the Yuyuan garden and Yuyuang Bazar, see Old Street, Pudong Bazar (the one in the metro) , the Bund, Bund Tunnel, Pearl Tower, Ocean Aquarium and Shanghai Museeum. We'll also take a trip to Suzhou and zhouzhuang. What do you Shanghai experts say? Are these things worth seeing or are the some things that would be better to spend our time on?

My last question is about Nfl-jerseys and tailored Suits.
-- Can I get NFL jerseys at the bazar (would love to bring some home for the boyz Smile )
--- I'd like a nice tailored suit in cashmere. I seldom wear a suit but I'd like a nice one for the rare occiasions. Where can i find a good tailor and how much do ou think it will cost. Can it be made in such a small amout of time?

Thank you for reading my threat I hope some of you will find time to answer my questions.

9 days is plenty of time for all that. If you stay in a hotel near People's Square or near the tourist part of Pudong you can walk or be a 10 minute subway ride from most of the places you mention.

There's almost no NFL stuff here, the NBA is much more popular especially since Yao is from Shanghai, but still there is limited sports apparel except for soccer stuff.

Yes We'll be living in that area so we'll be using the subway alot. To bad about the NFL jerseys, how about the suit any idea of how much that'll cost me?

And If anybody has a great idea of what i ought to see while in shanghai please let me know. Sometimes the best things are not in the tourist catalouge.

for the NFL-stuff, try 580 Nanjing Lu, the 'Metro Market' you already named or QiPu Market (QiPu Lu).
Have a Casjmere suit tailored will cost you about 600Rmb incl.good quality fabric, at least I did.
It takes about 3-5 days to make it incl. a fitting. Address I dunnow outta my head but its on the East side of FanBang Lu (Old Town) close to the river...
Good luck and enjoy ur stay!

Never been through the Bund Tunnel but I hear it's a joke. Although it is a fairly fast way to get from the Bund to the Pearl Tower.

Consider a cruise on the river as well.

Shanghai Aquarium: If you've been to modern acquariums elsewhere, you might be disappointed

Pearl Tower or Jinmao Building give you great views of Shanghai. Nighttime is recommended since during the day, the haze obscures the view. Consider a dinner in the restaurants in Jinmao Hyatt (make reservations!). Food in Pearl Tower is non-existent/horrible

There's the Shiliu Pu Fabric/Tailor Market at 168 Dong Men Lu cross street with Zhong Hua Lu (south end of the Bund and east of Yuyuan old street). I've had pretty good experiences with the shirt stall on the Ground Floor next to the escalators heading downstairs. Shirts will take about 5-7 days(they can rush but I don't recommend it) and cost 80-100RMB. The better quality cloth is in smaller bundles in the center section and will cost 100rmb. Shirts from cloth on rolls costs 80rmb. Get the better quality cloth unless you're really cost-conscious.

Haven't tried to get a suit made but you should give them at least 5 days and do 1 fitting.

"Consider a cruise on the river as well." Great idea! i'll have to do that.
I heard that the tunnel was kind of lame but i guess that we migt as well go through it when we're there anyway.
About the cloth I'll just order it one of the fist days then.

almost can't wait for this trip Smile ...

I went on a cruise to Putuo Mountain (buddhist island mecca) the cruise sucked (tiny cabins and polluted air on deck), but the island was beautiful.
