Post subject: three days in shanghai, in desperate need of good music!

it's been a disaster so far
i'm korean and spent my life around America and HK so i thought
shanghai wouldn't be that bad
but it seems like i'm confusing everyone here before i get the
chance to be confused by the huge fu*ing buildings

every taxi driver gets confused cuz i have no idea what they're
saying.. (they won't stop talking nonetheless)

japanese tourists approach me with a huge smile then get confused
cuz they thought i was japanese,

chinese people on the street won't give me a smile until they find
out i'm not japanese,

American tourists get relieved that i speak English,
then get confused at the fact that i vaguely know how to
get myself back home.(they end up giving me directions)

i myself am kinda confused cuz i'm readind a lot about hip hop clubs but don't see much about good dance music.
maybe some drum$bass ? was Makoto a one time thing?
anyone plz save me from my misery.............. Evil or Very Mad

Its all in your head.

I apparently look japanese or korean and i dont get any of what you are experiencing.

The taxi driver gets confused cos THEY have no idea what YOU are saying. Why would it matter what he is saying... you tell them where to go .. they go.

Why would that confuse them? surely it would be more of ... oh you arent japanese.

Chinese ppl dont smile at you on the street as they just dont do that here. Unless its a girl or gay wanting your ass, but in that case they would giggle as well.

Again why would they get confused?

Dance is the main thing here in SH... hip hop comes second. There are drum and bass nights in SH and there are quite a lot of interesting music events going on in Shanghai now. More so then last year.

^^^

If it's any use to you these are the clubs that I know play hip-hop..

Guandi (In Fuxing Park).. Plays hip hop most nights of the week, mostly ABC/Taiwanese crowd

Bon Bon (Huai Hai Lu, Hengshan Lu).. Hip Hop night every Thursday. Mixed crowd.

Level 2 (not sure address).. Haven't tried but heard they play hip-hop throughout the week.

Windows (Jing An).. Usually plays hip hop.

Bon Bon sometimes does DnB nights check www.smartshanghai.com/forums for more info as most clubs/promoters post the flyers and events there.

Hope that helps.. get out and enjoy your life! ; )

DrumNBass - every saturday night at bonbon in the (r)Ice Dome (back behind the main stage). DJ Skyline and DJ Siesta, and others.

DJ siesta brings in big DnB acts monthly. the next one is a Hospital Records night with DJ Tomahawk. that's on saturday the 20th of this month.

I also hear about a DnB thing at a place called "underclub" on TongRen Lu on mondays, but i have yet to check it out. on frikkin' MONDAY, for god's sake!

were you at Makoto? I love Deeizm.

Club BonBon runs a few Hip Hop nights, a few Dance/Electronic nights D'n'B was mentioned already, and even a live Punk Rock night. And it's OPEN BAR all the time!

Hip Hop events were great last year: Q-Bert, Jazzy Jeff, Netik, Roc Raida (comin back!).

Then again, so were the Dance/Electronic events: Goldie, 2manydjs, Adam White just played a few nights back and blew the crowd away!

If you're still here this week come to Club BonBon Thursday for Black Diamonds Hip Hop party with Motiv8 on the decks, MCs, and Host Da Long along with some smokin' hot babes.

Looks like you're into dance music. Ok, Friday - Tom Neville (dirty house/electro) very current - plays late and this OPEN BAR party goes till 6:30AM.

If you are here Saturday, you get it all. Basement Jaxx dj Felix B bangin the mashup punk funk in the main room AND hip hop hotness in the 2nd room. This is another late night OPEN BAR party that goes til 6:30AM
http://www.shanghaiexpat.com/Article1103790.phtml

Who else? Terry Francis (UK/Fabric); Sven Vath! (DE) on the 1/26.

This is just the start of another great non-stop drink-til-you-drop party year!
