Post subject: Chinese bank account transfer

HI
Hope someone can help regarding bank issue
I am moving to China i MAY through HKG ( where I hope to get my tourist visa extended ) .
I am going to travel my way from HKG to SHA and start in Fudan University in the end of August ( learing mandarin )

The plan is to open a businss in China at some poit in the future and my question is the procedure of opening up an chinese bank account !
Is that a problem and is possible to have some of my savings transferred from my Danish Bank to the Chinese bank ( aprox RMB 900.000 ) ?
I know it is not a problem for my Danish bank, but i was more think of a possible problem with the amount and also I would like to have them transferred as EUR ( not RMB or USD )
Anyone has any experience in having EUR in a Chinese Bank ( dont now if it safe to have RMB currency )
Regards
Peter

Just go into any bank branch with your passport and you'll be able to open an account. It really is that easy, but sometimes the teller will tell you to go get a photocopy of your passport and visa page rather than make it herself on the bank's copy machine.

You can have your money transferred here easily. It will not automatically be exchanged into RMB for you unless you instruct the remitting bank to do so. There is also no incoming wire transfer fee, but if you withdraw the foreign currency in cash you will be charged approximately 1% as commission. If you exchange the foreign currency you want to withdraw into RMB, there will be no commission and, in addition, the bank will exchange it at the higher foreign currency buy rate.

One slight problem you will encounter is not every bank branch has a lot of euros on hand.
