| Post subject: Baby food?? Which brand to choose? |
Hello parents,
Can anyone recommend a brand of baby food with 100% veg or fruits (no added sugar...).
My baby is starting to eat solids and so far he doesn't seem to be very keen on my homemade organic puree... Maybe it's not smooth enough...
Any idea why Gerber is a lot more expensive than Heinz?
Cheers!! |

No, no, they seem to be both made-in-China... |

The best way would be to make baby food yourself - some babies don't take to it so easily, but you have to keep trying, try feeding at a time you know that the baby is really hungry, don't add salt or sugar... try different things - less expensive and more healthy if you make at home ! |

How old is your baby? If they are just starting on solids sometimes it can take several attempts for them to get used to the texture and taste of new foods, and will spit them out. Introduce stuff which doesn't have strong taste. Mashed banana, steamed and mashed apple, pear etc and red vegetables such as sweet potato and carrot are good starters. Avoid green vegs at the moment as they are too strong in tase - and will give you very nice nappies!!
Sorry if you know all this already!
To be honest I wouldn't use the jar stuff here, but thats just my opinion. I use the gerber baby rice for my baby but thats all. |

sorry thought got interrupted by lunch
maybe blending different veggies within the group of ones s/he is eating will help it be more palatible? Our son has not gotten to this stage yet so i am curious as to what the solution will be too. Good luck. |

If you just started giving solids you could also try to blend the puree with formula (or breastmilk if you breastfeed). I started giving Heinz Babyrice (it was then available at City Supermarket), but started giving only very small amounts. Then I introduced cooked potatos, carrots, sweet potatoes, cooked pears, cooked apples, etc - all mixed with milk.
Good luck! |

My baby is going to be 6 months tomorrow
It's the 3rd day I tried carrots and he still doesn't like it...
I'll keep on trying until the end of the week and then I might change vegetables...
Thanks for all your replies. |

There is an imported all organic brand of baby food called Earths Best (or something like that) available at City Market. You can see on the ingredient list, it's just fruit and veg, nothing added. |

We boil and mash with one of those stone bowls and little clubs (can't remember what they're called) gets the food very smooth. Also the water we use to boil makes a nice, flavored drink.
If you have to buy, I doubt anything will be without preservatives. |

That's a mortar and pestle.. you can get those at ikea i think..
Baby panda, just relax, it so happens that babies are used to liquids and dont like the solids so soon as they are introduced. If baby doesnt like, you can just switch to other foods, and wait a week or two, and again try to introduce the same... they might like it.. their tastes keep changing.
Sometimes they like fruits better.. try mashed apple and banana, or pears...try mixing with milk.
Good luck ! |
