Tiny Jinxian Lu has slowly turned. First, a cute, French café. Then a couple of hidden fashion designers moved in. A spare, raw store that sells vaguely “street” things took space. Two more clothing stores, An art gallery. They’ve all been minor compared to what’s moving in now – a four-floor, family-style Italian restaurant with a crudo bar (that’s raw fish, Italian-style – big in New York in the last few years) and a rooftop, private dessert-and-cigar lounge. It’s called Osteria by Spirit, and it’s under construction now. The concept is interesting, a family-style prix-fixe way to order that means everyone shares the same first two courses, but then picks their own main dish. “You can ask for seconds,” Rudy Guo, managing partner and GM, told me, “and it will be casual.” So it’s no surprise who the other partner in it is – Eduardo Vargas. It’s two doors east of Citizen and they’re shooting for a soft opening this October 24th, 2008.
