Post subject: Would my cell phone work in China?

I'm purchasing a second phone in the US right now does anyone know if Samsung t619 or Samsung t209 would have any problem for use in China? What should I look for to make sure it is compatible?

thanks,

John

Look for words like triband, and not locked to a given provider (although that ones easily fixed).

The Chinese Networks are GSM-900(old original network) or GSM-1800 (newer and mainly in major cities). You have to make sure that the phones support these protocols.

Tri-band is not always enough because in the use the tri-band is specifies 3 bands but don't necessary include the ones you want (there are 5 GSM Bands) If you want to be sure you need a quad-band phone.

anyway according to the samsung t209 webpage it says Mode: GSM 850, 1800, 1900 MHz (usual definition of tri-band in the USA but elsewhere its 900/1800/1900)

so you may not get full coverage if an area only has 900 coverage (probably further out of the major cities like Shanghai)

and as lawrence says you have to make sure its not SIM locked to T-mobile or some provider
