Starting Tuesday, March 6 from 8-10pm enjoy our drink specials from high above Shanghai @ LeMeridien??s 789 Bar. This is a night with the Shanghai entrepreneur in mind; If you have even a passing interest of venturing out on your own, this is the place to get the ball rolling. Enjoy an evening with great drinks, an incredible view and conversations with like-minded individuals, including experienced entrepreneurs.
789 is located on the 65th floor of the new LeMeridien Hotel located at the interesection of Nanjing Road and Xizang Road (t¡bet Road). 789 is not your typical hotel bar, if you haven't stopped by yet you are surely missing out on a great venue and a spectacular 360 degree view of the city.
Remember this is an event developed by entrepreneurs looking to build a community of entrepreneurs in Shanghai.
The events will be held every other Tuesday, beginning Tuesday, March 6, the second event Tuesday, March 20, the third event Tuesday, April 3..and so on. We look forward to getting a large turnout to our first event one week from today.

I'm an entrepreneur that has opened one successful and one failed business in Shanghai. I have to say that if such a network existed a few years ago, that not only met regularly but was open to anyone interested in trying something, it would have saved me a great deal of time and money. Mistakes in business are inevitable, but its always nicer to learn from others mistakes than your own, especially when you are on a fixed budget. One other thing I've come to realize is that a business idea is worth everything until you come up with it. Once you've got the idea, its worth very little. My reasoning is that a thousand people can take the same idea, but only a few will be successful. Thats because execution is everything. Think of any industry in the world or sector in the world. An easy example to illustrate this is Youtube. How did a company with a few million dollars take an idea and make it more successful than multi-billion dollar companies trying to do the same thing such as Yahoo! and google (google had their own video sharing before they acquired Youtube.)? There are also countless additional companies that have also tried to develop a video sharing website that have failed. So my point in all of this is that having a community of thinkers helps them and helps you. By listening to other people's ideas, you are able to give them perspective and vice versa. They can broaden your sense of execution. If you are too afraid to tell other people about your idea, then you have a very naive sense of the world because with 6 billion people, there is slim to no chance that you are the only one with this idea. The difference comes in how you package your idea and the concept behind it. That is something that someone can't steal from you even if you do tell them about your venture. Your confidence should come not from solely your idea, but your take on the idea that gives it an added value only you can give it. For someone like Youtube, it was the interface and sense of community they were able to create. Anyway, all of this serves as a simple explanation of why I really support this entrepreneurship network. See you guys there. |

We are fully aware of the other entrepreneur groups in city. We do not see them as competition. What we are trying to do is create a community that meets often in order to encourage more frequent dialogue between those attending. To be honest, it will be nice to meet up with people of like-mind on a bi-weekly basis to find out what they are doing right and wrong, and correspondingly be able to discuss my own successes and failures. Ultimately, these NextStep Tuesday events will provide a network for each of us to tap into as we grow our businesses here in Shanghai.

heh hey toffler. funny what happened.
I think there's a great need for Shanghai to have multiple outlets for aspiring entrepreneurs or open-forum type opportunities so that the plethora of ideas that find their way to China, specifically Shanghai, have a way to breathe and find the space to grow.
This event should be able to enhance the SH landscape for entpreneurially-spirited individuals, whom seem to be increasingly younger, thus usually less experienced, but nonetheless thirsting for that first success to thrive on.
I'm excited to be a part of it all and hope ANYONE that likes to share their stories/ideas/aspirations come, so we can all benefit from this.
I want in on that mailing list! =) |

This event will require no entry fee, and everyone attending will enjoy great discounts on drinks. Additionally, there will be no membership fees or sign-ups. Last night we had a great turnout, well over 100 people attended our launch of NextStep Tuesdays at 789 Bar. Be sure to check out our upcoming NextStep event, Tuesday March 20th from 8 til 10 at 789 Bar on the 65th floor of the Le Royal Meridien Hotel. NextStep will be held every other Tuesday, thereafter. I have become a bit skeptical of entrepreneurial events such as NextStep. There are similar events that are currently run by some well known business organizations (I won't name names) that have become nothing more than a place for lonely singles to meet. Is this what NextStep is all about? |
