Hello everyone,
Two weeks have nearly passed and we are heading back to the 789 Bar on the 65th floor of the Le Meridien Hotel for our upcoming NextStep Tuesday on May 22nd from 8 til 10pm.
We are pleased to announce that we will be truly kicking off the ??featured guests?? concept of NextStep by inviting Ladi Delano, founder of Solid Vodka company, and Matt Reid, the Marketing Director of Solid Vodka. Please note that our featured guests do not make speeches; even better, they mix and move amongst the members and you will be able to personally pick their brains. Of course, their experiences do not begin or end there, as their attention is now focused on the concept establishment, The Collection: a seamless merging of Pure, a contemporary Japanese restaurant; Sugar, China??s first dessert parlour; and Sugarcube, a sophisticated club/lounge for fashionistas and business stars of Shanghai. The Collection is slated to open early June and is the most high-profile and public facing of ongoing investments through Matt and Ladi??s company, 1ama: Property, Investments, and Innovation.
We will see you out on Tuesday for what should be a great event. Come mingle with our featured guests as well as many other aspiring entrepreneurs at Le Meridien's 789 Bar perched 65 floors above Shanghai.

hi,
i am new in shanghai and really really interested in opening a Bar here, i moved here 6 months ago. i've been to clubs and trying (through my friends) meeting people who are in the business but everybody said the same "this is a very tough business for a woman"! well i took it as a challage and that's not a prob, but THE PROBLEM IS ... i only have limited capital and after doing all the research i got scared with the amount! (specially the space rental in TongRen Lu area), do you know what is the procedure to get business loan in shaghai? and after reading my long borring mail do you have any suggestion for me what should be my next step? it is always been my dream to have my own bar |

Check out the next event this group is hosting. Good cross section of people, and you might bump into someone that can help with at least info. If you're new to this, maybe try applying at one of the bars for a manager or asst manager spot so you can get a better idea of what it takes to do it in shanghai
And if you do open your bar, hosting club events seems to be a good way to drum up extra business on an otherwise dead night! Looked like Maneo did very well on the 3rd |

How come no one posts anything about these meetings here? Feedback, their experiences, benefits they have received from attending, etc??
Just odd a little bit - 4 pages mainly repeating the dates and times of the next meeting but no one else saying anything.
Even the tuesday night dinners get feedback. |

Well, I tell you why. It's because the meeting has not much to offer, except over priced drink specials, unfriendly people who outcast you if you don't speak French, and guest speakers nowhere to be found. The original posting on this thread is totally a mislead.
No exchanging business ideas.
No entropreneurs.
No inclusiveness.
No learning from each other.
Yes, yes, yes to overpriced drinks, bar managers and french only groups. Someone even said to me "why are you here if you're American?" I didn't know it was a French social club thing. I didn't get that from reading this thread. So what if it was? Can't they be little more friendly and welcoming???? Are they trying to build their own nation within this country????? I thought French concession was deconstructed long time ago. Where were all the people posted messages from the beginning? I guess soon I will be like one of them, disappearing in thin air.
It was an experience, but not exactly a nice one to go back to. Must say very disappointed one. Well, life goes on without you! |
