| Post subject: Entrepreneur Cocktail Hour(s) |
Some friends and I, entrepreneurs in Shanghai ourselves, are looking to organize a regular biweekly entrepreneurs cocktail/beer/cigars event at various Shanghai bars (Discounted drinking of course). The events are designed to encourage everyone who is already in business or is looking to get into business, young or old, to get to know one another, learn from one another, and create a more developed entrepreneur community in Shanghai.
We know that several entrepreneur societies do exist in Shanghai, but we are looking to create a new type of community. One that interacts quite regularly, and more importantly is inclusive of everyone, even those with just a passing interest of doing business in China.
Tell us what you think. We are interested in your feedback. We are looking to get these events up and running by late March. |

Sounds like that all the others are already doing. Especially the "inclusive of everyone" part. Whats the use of this new group? |

Your opinion is well noted. The goal of the events planned is to create a sense of community among entrepreneurs in Shanghai, especially for those new to the game who may not yet have developed all the necessary contacts.

I for one think this is an excellent idea. There are many organizations here devoted to business networking but, it seems, few if any dedicated to entrepreneurs per se. One organization that I investigated seemed to be defunct and, if it had been in operation, required membership fees on the order of several hundred USD - I'm not sure if these people are clear on the meaning of the word "entrepreneur" - it seems to me that someone who can splash that much out for a social club is already, by definition, an established businessman. |

jmcshg - I would be very interested dispite I m not based in SH but am actively looking into setting up business in china. I come to SH on regular basis on business trips and would certainly be interested in meeting up with you guys to exchange ideas on my next visit in May

We will definitely be up and running by that point. Keep an eye on this thread and other Shanghai websites for more information. The goal of this group is to become more recognized in the city, not a group that flies under the radar.

I am very interested. I am an entrepreneur and I haven't found or heard of any places/ gatherings - so I think it is a great idea!!!

We will be creating a contact list in the coming days. It looks as if we may have lined up a great venue for the events, I will keep you all posted. It looks as if it will be a Tuesday night function, starting around 730pm each night.

color me interested, i've got a couple of businesses in the states and i'm looking to expand in china. i've been here for about a year and a half and it would be nice to have some feedback from other entrepreneurs, not just people who swear they have the only contacts in china to start a business or want a foreigner to jv with. in return i've been both unsuccessful and successful in my business ventures and normally have pretty good advice (or so i'm told, don't want to shine my own star too much  ) running the gamut from retail to oem/tier 1 manufacturing. hope to see you all soon! |

It sounds like a good idea, and I'm all for the concept of meeting other like-minded folk...the only thing is once you're onto a good thing, you don't necessarily want to let other people in on it, especially if it's your bread and butter. Still, I'm interested in the idea. |
