| Post subject: Teaching Science/Bology or a any Medical related Subject |
I have a question.
I have ben here in China for tree years but I found that finding a teaching job teahing Science/Biolgy or any medical retaed subjects isnt easy as finding English teaching positions.
I am presently employed in a Pharmaceutical school in Pudong teaching English .In the past I taught "Pathology" in Henan , I really liked it and had no thoughts of leaving.but I was let go of the school not because of any issues or "incompetency" but the school has decided to hire "white teacher" to draw students, ya know in China!!! and I am not a native English speaker but has a TESOL certficate that I took in Bangkok last year ,have a degree in Laboratory Medicine((Medical Technology in my country) and I am very confident of my Spoken English
I am planning to leave my present school (without telling them if issues will not be resolve)becasue the students are very onboxious and I really really feel that they do not welcome non native English speaker.I am undergoing through a hard time right now, a decision has to done that will change my situation here in China, (wether this decsion will turn out to be good or not.), plus the fact that I am very new here in Shanghai.I have very good salary, nice apartment BUT I AM NOT HAPPY WITH MY STUDENTS.(I walked out several times)
Advise will trully be appreciated.
Anybody who knows where there's a job opening where I can teach the above mentiond subjects , please let me know.
Any websites where I can find teaching positions for Science (GenSci or NatSci)/Biology or Medical English, preferebly in Shangai cause my permit and visa are now issued here.Btw, I just stated teaching last March 1
Thank you.
Can I ask still work in other schools in Shanghai, with the residence permit /visa that I obtained from my present school? |

i think you can since visas and permits goes with you not to the company. |

I can sympathize with your disposition since many students are dispassionate when it comes to education...especially when it isn't taught in their native language. Moreover, many also lack proper study habits and reliance on self-discipline and hard effort are qualities which are hard to find in students.
Take a close look at the contract you signed. If there is no stipulation that forbids you to take part in extra-curricular activities such as moonlighting, then it is permissible.
However, if you leave abruptly without notice and thereby void the contract you might have trouble next year when you try to renew your visa. Your new sponsor/employer will require a release letter from your previous sponsor ( the old school) therefore freeing any legal liabilities. (your previous sponsor may refuse to cooperate)
(Tough situation but there are certainly some loopholes than you can finagle with some outside help.)
At any rate, you might want to leave your current situation in lieu of a more suitable position as a freelancer that many teachers opt to do. Speciality subjects as medicine, sciences are hard to come by without a doctorate degree.....and being a non-native speaker makes your requirements even more of an uphill battle. Good Luck |

Thanks a lot.
Just want to share you these....last night me and my co-teacher from NZ spent time talking . He has been with the school for more than a year. His experienced are worst than what I am experiencing right now, it involved physical contact with the students inroder to discipline them....I will never go through the details but his stories are definetely stories where I can learn from. Yesterday , I crumpppled a paper work of a student togther with his face.....it was reallly something that I never thought I 'd be able to do......my patience reached already its limit.
I just started last March 1, I am thinking of not putting this employment history in my CV , therefore it making something that never existed, I have my release paper from my last employer prior to this pharma school......
In fairness, the FAO (Foreign Affairs Officer) of this school is doing her best but the scenario in my class and in the meeting room with her is far more different, so we are just running around in circle....who said what, who did what, ....... |
