SPECIAL EVENTS FOR APRIL 2007 @ 4 LIVE (8 Jianguo zhong lu @ Chongqing lu, Shanghai) --

April 1 (Sunday) -- Top Floor Circus April Fool's Talent Show! Expect a night of wild and wacky antics where you are encouraged to participate by joining Top Floor Circus on stage. Special prizes for the best singers. 30 RMB/door. 10pm start.

April 6 (Friday) -- Convenience Store -- Beijing "Brit-pop" style band has been making waves in Asia since 2001. Their new album "TV Monkey" is going to be released in April 1, 2007... 50 RMB/door. 9pm-10pm FREE BEER Happy Hour. Opening band: Dropkicks. Live show followed by indie rock and electroclash DJs Fish, Ozone, others.

April 7 (Saturday) -- Back To The Roots - The Lab One Year Anniversary Party starring DJ Yasa [Japan] - Shanghai's most popular hip hop monthly party returns with the boys and girls from The Lab bringing you the best in live hip hop, funk, drums, and soul. Dragon Dance Studio breaks out on the floor. DJ Yasa 2nd place DMC champ for 2006... 30 RMB/door. 15 RMB/Tsingtao bottles all night. 10pm-late.

April 8 (Sunday DAY) -- PAUSE -- After 5 successful Pause parties last year, this free Sunday afternoon music and art festival is back to celebrate spring! 20 DJs and live musicians. Live graffiti art, creative workshops and interactive media, new merchandise and graphic art from the PAUSE team, Otorok, and shops My Xanadu and ENO. Learn, share, express, enjoy. 2pm-8pm. FREE.

April 11 (Wednesday) -- Koeju -- Norwegian Live Electronic meets Traditional Chinese music. A collaboration between Chinese Pipa player Tong Lan and Norwegian musician Asmund Skuterud. Koeju live beats project explores the potential in live electronic music, avoiding computer loops in favor of 100% live instrumentation. Don't miss Asmund's one-man-band performance, playing 2 real drums and 3 synth keyboards at once! 10pm FREE. 20 RMB rum-and-cokes all night.

April 13 (Friday) -- Foster & Jackson and Motown Music Night -- Foster & Jackson bring the soulful sounds of America to China for their first time in this live performance evening. These two talented singers were in the Coasters and the Drifters, and shared the stage with legendary music talents like Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley. 50 RMB/door. 9pm-10pm free beer happy hour. Followed by Motown music DJs.

April 14 (Saturday) -- Antidote Live / 传染 Neo Spring after-party for Neocha.com website launch event.
* Antidote and Neocha.com bring you a night of rare electronic dance music, with live techno, breakcore, and 8-bit IDM. We present Shanshui Record's Sulumi and iLoop from Beijing, and B6, Shanghai_Ultra, and DJ Fish from Antidote Shanghai. This will be the official after-party for NeoSpring Creative Festival.

April 20 (Friday) -- Brain Failure -- One of China's most famous punk rock bands, these boys have toured extensively, including a recent 100-show tour of America. 50 RMB/door. 9pm-10pm free beer happy hour. Opening band to be announced. Followed by punk rock DJs Fish & Ozone.

April 21 (Saturday) -- Shanghai By Bus -- Jah love! Time for another all-night Jamaica soundsystem rager with the best reggae, dancehall, dub team in de town, Uprooted Sunshine. Get on the bus! 30 RMB/door. Cheap drink specials.

April 27 (Friday) -- ** DATE CHANGE TBA ** Supermarket, Huzi, Wang Juan -- China's pioneer electro-rock band Supermarket return to Shanghai, with veteran ambient-IDM producers Huzi and Wang Juan. Followed by electro DJs. 50 RMB/door. 9pm-10pm free beer happy hour.

April 28 (Saturday) -- Pretty Girls Make Graves -- One of America's hottest indie rock acts comes to China for the first time, exclusively at 4 Live. 100 RMB/door. 80 RMB/ for students with current ID card. Exclusive China-only release tour T-shirts for sale courtesy of ENO shop.

April 20 (Friday) -- Brain Failure -- One of China's most famous punk rock bands, these boys have toured extensively, including a recent 100-show tour of America, opening for the Dropkick Murphys. Last year they released their "Beijing to Boston" album on Epitaph Records in the USA, which did well on college radio and charted nationally in CMJ magazine.

I managed to catch the last 5 of Brain Failure's set last night. Great gig. But the Banana Monkeys couldn't quite get it done. Bassist too drunk to play? Seriously! What a let-down for those guys.
