Rachel
lived there for a long time so my views below on ur queries:
1. housing, maid, driver - should be adequate and comfortable
2. schools - lots of international schools, British, American, IB etc - quite expensive though..! hindi is not an issue at all in those..!
3. Gyms - top class ones all over the city
4. Restaurants - every type u can imagine and really authentic ( except the Chinese ones..!), much more variety than Shanghai !!
5. shopping... huge malls but in the suburban areas and plenty of variety / choice on things and prices in the city !
6. weather... HOT April - Sept... cold after that till march.. can get to +1 or + 2 in January, rains bewteen July and Sept..
If you need any assistance or further info.... just ask.. |

As stated on their web page
"To celebrate India's independence day - 14 August, California Club is going off the beaten track and will introduce something new and different. Rather than making it about decorations, on Saturday 11 August, it will be all about the music."
I was kidding about the change.. |

| Post subject: Shanghai Calling... |
Hi All,
I discovered this site today. Looks like a friendly desi community in Shanghai.
Quick introduction:
I'm an Indian living in North Carolina, USA, doing my exec MBA at Duke University. Originally from Hyderabad - I speak Telugu, Hindi and English.
I'm visiting Shanghai (and Beijing) as part of an International Academic experience for a few days... (Sept 20, 21) I'm thinking it will be fun to meet up with the desis living in Shanghai one evening...
Lotta, Shindam, Captah, Asha, Velamuri... lots of names in the posts.
Not sure if it is possible at all... I don't know which hotel we'll be staying in, but will post it once I know. Hey Lotta, we have plenty of Indian grocery stores in NC (as does Bay area where Shindam comes from)... let me know if you want something... something that's not too heavy or aromatic We may only meet for a few minutes, but I'm hoping this random act of kindness is not a bad idea
Shindam, how's your expat gig going ? Asha (from Singapore) and Velamuri (from Barcelona), how's your adjustment to Shanghai ?
Expating in China sounds adventurous and I have half a mind to look for an expat role in China in the near future...
Have fun y'all and take care!

Dear Vijayn,
I m coming to shanghai for around 8 days on 16th august. I just asked my chinese friend to call naresh and see where he is situated so that i can rent a hotel near by, as we are looking for vegeterian eatery. But unfortunately i understand that he is not serving any more. Is there anyone else that u know of who is running a similar service
Will appreciate your help greatly
Thanks

Hi guys.I guess this is the right place for me to ask for advice.
Iam a south indian(tamilnadu)coming to shangai.I am bringing my two kids,a toddler of an yr old and an infant(3months old).we'll be coming there on november ,supposed to b winter there.
My query is .
How is the cold there.
The minimum temperature v've experienced till now is about 15deg or so in kodaikanal.
How is it there?.Is the windchill high?Iam really worried about my infant.
I know nothing about parenting in colder climates.
Please gimme an insight abt this climate issue.
is it painful coldness? |

Hey what's up and where is everybody? seems kinda quiet here these days... Hi Iniyamalar...very sweet name...I cant give you much info abt Shanghai as Im realtively new but this is what I picked up from friends and my personal experience here since last Dec..It can get pretty cold here in Dec it was abt 3-5 degrees when I came over for a recce trip( I herad it can get even lower at certain times). If you have young children, like I do...stock up on their regular cough and cold mixtures. Lots of warm clothings and central heating helps too. Hope I have been helpful although it's best to check with others who have been here much longer than me...well if all else fails take a holiday back to India to escape the cold |
