Psst....guys&gals,

What about this time....we go Gubei Garden Hotel, take the lift up to the 3rd floor, pay RMB200 and eat all you can. It's Japanese food and absolutely great sake! The restaurant name is 'Chu Hua'(is that the correct pinyin?)
Which would be a great day; Wednesday(15th), Friday(17th) or Saturday(18th)?

please reply ASAP, seats are limited.

great, do get your friends singaporeans and non-singaporeans too... it's probably unlike the typical singaporean event... come meet new friends and learn about peoples' impressions of singapore via all kinds of music.

mjolle, come over for curry then. We freeze the homemade paste that my MIL prepares and I make the red chilli portion and my DH cooks the curry. Another thing would be ikan bilis....the ones here seem miserably soggy for some reason and mee sua...my DD recently discovered that she likes it and we couldn't find the "pink" box one.

Me not around during NDP but hey...we should watch it online and have a feast hor?!

vandrew: Yeah, at least for me, I got my iron board covers from Singapore. Sounds so silly lor. Hhahaha. Everytime I come back from Singapore, my husband sees my luggage open and sees all sorts of nonsense I bring back and shakes his head in disbelief. Hhahaa. There is a Vicks equivalent here which is Mentholatum, you can get the rub for kids too. It works equally well as Vicks.

mjoelle: Nah, we wouldn't be going for the party. Check the PM I left for you.

Hi there...I am a young (relatively) single Singaporean who just arrived in Shanghai from Chicago. Found the SSBA-SCS. Is this SMS group part of it? Or just an informal group of friends? Im new in the city so would definitely like to meet more friends...

Ok gals I have a couple of questions for u:
1. Where is Qing Fang Shi Chang?
2. U can get ikan bilis here? I could not find it at carrefour!
3. Where can u get tahu? the kind we get from our markets back home...for my tahu sambal?
4. If you pack ur food stuff n medicines in the containers to be shipped to shanghai will it not be affected by the fumigation done at the customs in china?
(that was what I was told ??? )

I got my curry powder n spices from singapore, as u all know we indians cant live without curry! Razz
But i miss my fried beehoon, as i cant seem to get the type of rice vermicelli i am used to in singapore like the tai sun or wai wai brand...looks like an awful lot to lug back...i hate bringing lots of luggage, especially since i have the little one in tow and me going solo without DH...btw coming over to Sh this friday!

i'm at Gubei/Hong Qiao Smile yes, will be delivering #2 here.

cacky
thanks for your info on Mentholatum. we dont really use tat but bought 1 bottle juz for standby... so now know liao dun need to ta bao next time Smile

asha
i saw ikan bilis at Gubei carrefour, all the dried meat/fish/seaweed section. those big, dark ones which i find more suitable for soup base. quite ex tho as compare to sg. i've brought 1kg from sg too cos we love to fry it like nasi lemak style n eat as snacks Smile

usually medicine n food stuff i rather pack them in luggage cos of the climate, things may end up mouldy in seafreight Sad but well our unopened bottles of sauces, sealed dried good and pre-mixes no choice were shipped via seafreight... will be arriving tmr (6 weeks already) hope they're still edible...

ladies,
any idea where to get shallots and the small lime (limau aka suan kan)? do they have it here???

I am busy cramming all your tips and advice. Luckily got bolsters in ikea. Good lah, one thing less to worry about.

Today I succeeded in getting one carton of Aik Cheong coffee delivered to my house! Failed to move the Nestle distributor to send Milo tho.... a trip to Carrefour or Giant is definitely in order, I need the delivery service! Yeah someone told me about the horrid bee hoon there... another item to add to my list. Or maybe just substitute with thick beehoon or kwayteow la (does SH hv those?)

How does one bring curry spices to SH, if at all? Regretfully, will have to skip that... my hubby starting to give me funny looks already. Will just hv to try hard to get invited to meepok's house hee hee! Smile

vandrew, are you all ready for your baby? so nice to have a baby on the way! are you delivering in SH or S'pore? Anyone tried Gleneagles in SH?

asha, will definitely let u know abt dance classes... more the merrier! actually any dance is fine la, as long as it's not aerobics.

vandrew - Can't find the lime here. I used lemon as substitute. Which hospital will you go to? I had my 2nd one delivered here too at Am-Sino. Let us know if you need any help.

asha: Like vandrew said, the big ikan bilis can be found at carrefour, on the 3rd floor, near the cashier area, where they also sell other stuff like dried shrimps and scallops. I haven't tried them so far. Again, I find them dubious looking. Hahhaha. So I'd bring back the big ikan bilis from Singapore (another one of those nonsense items). As for the smaller ikan bilis, the kind you can pan fry and eat with porridge, you can buy them from the japanese marts or Jiu Guang supermarket. Not that cheap though.

As for tahu, you mean tau foo? If it's tau foo, you can easily find them in Carrefour too. Maybe you ought to come over to the Carrefour at Gubei. Well, I think there is a brand of vermicelli being sold at Carrefour too but I have yet to try it. I brought mine back from Singapore (chilli brand). Still have un-used packets and don't think we can finish it. If you need, just give me a holler.

vandrew: Carrefour sells shallots. And as for the small lime, unless you're very lucky on that day, you can find it in Pines. Other than that, I've only seen the bigger limes which works just as well for me.

allegro: Shanghai does sell thick beehoon (dried) and kway teow at this supermarket called Pines. They even have yellow noodles there. There is also another alternative for thick beehoon and yellow noodles which is via Sin Xia.

We can call them up to order and they'll deliver for a minimum order of 100rmb. When you are here, I can pass you the contacts.

mjoelle: I dropped you a PM.
