It's weird, National Day never meant anything to me in Singapore but that that I'm here, I'm quite proud to be Singaporean.

Happy 42th Birthday Singapore!

Nah the Spot tommorow isn't a Singaporean celebration. But I think there're a couple of events going on today:

Lush: http://www.smartshanghai.com/event/5660/Singapore_Day_Red_and_White_Pa rty@Lush_shanghai

Logo:

Some other folks going for some buffet at Orchard CRC too.

Join us at the Spot if you can make it.

Hi folks, I'm new to this forum / site, but not new to Shanghai / China, hahaha.

Met some folks here @ Spot last nite, I'm the fellow doing SAP Consulting, for those who spoke to me (if they remember, hahaha). I enjoyed the relaxing evening, dinner, drinks, talk-cok over some non-heavy music. And of course, not forgetting to mention, meeting all the folks & new friends!

Only came into this website after realising that most, if not all the folks last nite are in here. B4 that, really busy & then lazy too, heehee

love it man! that's the way....
not the ciggy made us die! HAHAHAHAHAHHA

the ciggy lobang:

the only menthol cigarette I ever came across in China is 绿叶, bought in 中山市, in GuangDong Province. Amazingly, it's only 2.5 RMB a pack!

I started smoking when I was a teenager, Marlboro red was 1 of the 1st few brands. And then I stick more to Salem, cos I prefer cold stuffs, even food & drinks. When Marlboro Menthol came out, I switched to it, cos it's abit cheaper than Salem, hahaha.

When I initially arrived in SHA, I also had the same problem, couldn't find menthol cigarettes. Until I came across those street vendors outside pubs. I bought 1 packet of Salem, smoked it in the pub. I find it ok, genuine, then I went out to him again & bought 1 carton. I do it this way ever since. If the vendors don't have so much, just buy as many packets as they have. So far, only once, I kena fake cigarette, that's along Yunnan Nan Lu, the famous street with lotsa food. I say it's fake cos the packet of Marlboro Menthol (instead of Salem), is tasteless, like Marlboro Lights!

I just came back to Shanghai 3 months ago, after staying in Taiwan for 1 year & another year in Thailand (come back alive through the military coup & terrorist bombings). Shanghai has changed alot! Now, I can see quite some wine & cigarette shops selling foreign cigarettes, which previously, they hardly have. Many small roadside stalls, similar to those mamak stalls in Spore & Msia, also have.

Menthol smokers u can get Salem. Menthol Lights, Marlboro Menthol Lights is actually more common than Salem. Marlboro Lights & Marlboro Red, u shouldn't have a problem.

In my early days in Shanghai, these ciggies sell at 12 RMB a pack, but when I buy more, can bargain until 10 RMB (those days, they call it black market, or underground market). Now, they're 14.5 RMB a pack. At most, can bargain until 140 RMB a carton at those shops. Roadside vendors, can bargain further. By the way, if u go to those smaller "mamak" stalls, many of them are from duty-free shops from various countries / airports.

bery unusual for men to smoke mentol cigerrette. cos they say can cause impotent....loll..dont really see much menthol here best is buy the light ones..and buy from the proper Wine and Cigaretee shop that is where the Marlboro or oveeseas brank are imported, those on the street..those are not cigarrettes..

Actually its not unusual. in singapore, pple who smoke menthol is quite a handful. in fact half of my frens who smoke, smokes menthol. but over here, it is as good as non. haha. well thanks anyway for the tip!

Anyone knows on the visa thingy? My parents wants to come over and stay. how do i apply? in SGP or SH? Thanks.

smoke menthol cos impotency? yes, heard that before, when I was a teenager. But both my grandparents are heavy smokers, and they smoke Consulate, the brand during those good old days. They smoke 3 packets a day! And I have so many cousins! They all very healthy, but guai-guai, nerdy type, I'm the naughtiest in the family...

For the visa thingy (hope this info din come in too late):
your spouse (if any) & parents can oso apply for the same visa as u (assuming employment visa), but is "riding" under your visa. Maybe can check the details with company HR.

If not, it may be easier to apply for "visiting relative" visa 探亲签证。 A friend of mine (Msian, but he's holding both Canadian & British passports), applied for it when he was in Canada. It cost him about =< 110 Canadian dollars for 1 year validity.

I also checked a little on this 探亲签证 when I was in Bangkok (was living there before I came back Shanghai). The criteria seem vague, up to the discretion of the Embassy or Chinese Govt!

Hahaha...halo halo. Great meeting you too! Nice night, chill out! Dinner, drinks, talk-cok-sing-song and groove over the non-heavy music is the best. Enjoyed it much! The fire Samouca and Bacardi151 killed my throat that night.
Started with Guinness, Heineken, Tiger, Kahlua, Samouca(with fire), Southern Comfort, Bacardi151, Tequila pops then back to Guinness.....lucky i got my way home! LOL!

Great...full of information.

As for me, I started with Gudang Garam...one of the famous Indonesian cigarettes. It was when I was 13yrs old. Hahaha...then i changed to Salem. Hmmm....I don't quite like the menthol taste. After awhile I changed to Marlboro Lights.

Then, when I came here to Shanghai, bought 5 cartons of Marl Lights...reached here early around 6plus am. Lucky no custom/checking...else, if they check...I'll be in trouble. Hahahaha

Now, I changed to 555Lights. Sounds like an old-man cigarettes yah? I got it from one of the shop nearby my place....it's always from Vietnam. I wonder it's a smuggled ciggy or from those duty-free. Hahahaha
Well, it's RMB12per pack. Good enough....but, cigarettes is always not good for lung! Hahahahahahhahaha

Enough of the ciggy....one of us gonna have his birthday soon. Again...The Spot is the place to chill. We'll see...

Hi folks, today is the 1st day of Lunar 7th month. Also the beginning of a new week.

Gotta be extra careful when we talk, walk, etc. Dont offend the spirits, as advised by family elders when we were kids, where we grow up. Also for those with children, take more care of them.

Have a nice day & week ahead!

Hi all,

Can someone give me the contact numbers to Waterman or Nestle brands of bottled water? I will probably need to order that as soon as I get there next week.

And while I'm at it, anyone got good recommendation for air purifier, ionizer, and water filter systems? Websites and tel no?

Thanks a bunch!
