| Post subject: which bank and where? HK? |
i would like to open a new account, maybe in HK, that would enable Credit card usage. better service and interest rates would be great too.
what r implications for financial disclosure vis -a vis HK and Mainland banks and their western counterparts?
do u need to use passport of current visa? does resident status count? if so which country?
ive heard HK banks arent interested, for expats, under 10k $, is that true? |

it should be easy to get a bank account in HK by using your passport. However for credit card (though very popular alreays) it may be a little tricky as you may need to have a address (perhaps at least a mail box) and also show income (or asset) prove to them and it would take a little processing time.
I have not heard difficulty for expat to get credit card as long as one has a job in HK and able to show income prove - should be same as for others, right? May be don't got to the 'big' banks but the smaller banks then as they may be more flexible for business concerns |

Rule has changed. Opening a personal account at bank in Hong Kong require an address in HK (e.g. a utility bill in your name). I think for credit card, there is either an income level requirement or accumulated deposit level over a period of time. Each bank has its own policy and someone already said that smaller bank tend to be less strick about this. |
