Hi Candy. With the post you wrote above it should be broken up in to separate sentences and the word "wish" should be included. It should have been written as follows:
Hi seeker. Thank you so much for your help. I will be very happy if you help with my English. |

Don't mean to sound pedantic, but wouldn't we use the conditional tense in this sense ie "I'd be very happy if you helped with my English..." Dunno, I'm all confused now! |

I'll volunteer. Lesson 1 - you got two words in the wrong order in the above sentence. |
Here is the proper english:
I am a working girl in Shanghai and I would like to offer oral to you |

Carrot who thinks Celery will have more similar sound to her Chinese name... the name Hunter sounds a bit too much for me too, regardless others may say it's prefectly find. It just sounds intimidating somehow...
Heaps and heaps of people have "Angel" anywhere in their first/middle/family name. I know enough Angelina, Angelica, Angel, Angeline |

I can give you one reason for the weird names...probably not the only one.
When I first came to China I was given a really bad Chinese name, a transliteration that 'marks' you as a westerner, e.g. LouBoTou for Robert or Ya Dang for Adam. These names always get a laugh from Chinese when you introduce yourself.
So, when I got the chance (and I promise I'm not the only one) to give out some names to Chinese, friends, English class, etc it was payback time.
Whoever said 'revenge is a dish best served cold' was 100% on the money. |

The best English name I've seen a Chinese person take is one of the servers at the Starbucks in the Kerry Center. He is a jolly, rather large boy named Xpand. No joke, that's what it says on his name tag. Anyone seen it? He's very sweet and friendly so I feel especially bad for him. But then I also want to take his picture. I wonder what English teacher or foreigner with a cruel sense of humor suggested that one to him! |

Xpand - that is perfect! Give him a few years and he'll be the hottest rapper in China!
I had a girlfriend in High school named Candy, western girl, western parents. She liked a bit of oral too...
Oral is used quite a lot academically, but I think the point is not that it is used for various legitimate reasons - that is beyond dispute. It's more that every time it is used, it gets a chuckle by immature people like you and me.
Candy...am wondering, do you understand the 'other' meaning of Oral, the one that we are all alluding to? |

A good dictionary is indispensable for learning a foreign language.
In learning a foreign language, question and answer drills are good disciplines.
Whether the language is learnt quickly or slowly, it is hard work.
Candy: Let's learn from each other. |
