| Post subject: Best Movies??? New topic |
Time for a new movie topic instead of just 'what movies have you watched.'
Please post movies you think are good/great/worth watching and add some commentary. Please add why it is a good movie instead of just the name or whether you like the movie or not.
I am very skeptical about people who post that 'CRANK' is an awesome movie and 'GHOSTRIDER' is decent..........Everybody is entitled to their own opinion...but some are just wrong.
'Last King of Scotland' - brilliant movie to watch. Forest Whitaker fully deserves his Oscar his role as Idi Amin. His portrayal of Amin is personal, yet disturbing. |

crank - not as horrible as i expected
ghostrider - i refuse to watch nick cage movies
last king of scotland - head and shoulders above the others listed but still i couldnt help shake the thought that it used the same crutch as blood diamond (another excellent movie with all things considered) where we have the lone white guy protagonist that the movie is centered around in a continent full of black ppl |

Love Affair with Annette Benning and Warren Beatty with a cameo by Katherine Hepburn. It brings you through every emotion and leaves you with a great feeling every time! |

Go for the classics,
Dr Strangelove by Stanley Kubrick 1964, one of the best Black Comedies you will ever see. Even today its shattering satiric thrusts at the awkwardness and folly of the military is still powerful, see Iraq for details.
Peter Sellers plays 3 parts, President Merkin Muffley, Group Captain Lionel Manddrake and the ex Nazi Dr Strangelove. Sellers got an Academy Award nomination for his role as best actors.
Sterling Hayden plays "Buck" Turgidson a USAF General who sends his B52s into bomb Russia without telling the President first.
UASF Joint Chief of Staff played by George C Scott trys to explane matters to the President on how the USAF can attack Russis with nuclear bombs without anyone knowing.
USAF Major T J "King" Kong playd by Slim Pickings must fly his B52 thru Russia airdenfence and drop his bombs. If he does the world will come to an end as the Russians have a Dooms Day Device set to automatically explode if they are attacked.
Meanwhile we learnt the whole event has been caused by the florlidization of our water supply!
A classic movie for ever, every time a watch it I see more and more details and I still laugh at the many jokes, "Fighting in the War Room", "Getting into trouble with the Coka Cola Company" and Major Kongs "Final Ride".
Watch and Enjoy! |

Layer Cake; fantastic story, great music, and all around gripping ganster movie done in traditional british style
Trainspotting; while the movie can't compare with the book, Ewan McGregor does a fantastic job as Mark renton....
Thank You For Smoking; we all know that its bad... but this satirical movie gives one up for the smokers (if you don't get some of the jokes just ask a smoker friend!)
PTU; one of the best hong kong police movies ever... truly awesome, in terms of its legendary status its up there with Protoge
And Finally... i know it isn't a movie, but i just have to say Rome (hey its on HBO which is a movie channel right?); absolutley amazing, i can't stop watching... the historical accuracy and brilliant writing keep you enthralled... Marc anthony and octavian have to be some of the coolest people in history! |

I disagree. This is one of the few instances where the film was better than its source material. "Trainspotting" the book is a disjointed mashup of short stories and vignettes. Many of them quite brutal and unappetizing. The film captured that rawness and left most of the dialect intact but transformed it into a cohesive story with actual characters and somewhat of a plot.
If it hadn't been for the film, I doubt Irvine Welsh would be known outside of his housing scheme.
But if you like that sort of thing The Krays done in the 80s is a great British film about the London underworld. |
