What kind of shock? Does your machine find it? You could get a copy of spinrite (http://www.grc.com) and give that a try. |

Depends.
Typically there are two ways drives die -
Disk failure - eg head hits platter or stiction, clicking or head seeking or other similar issues. Depending on whats happened *may* be possible to recover data. Typically software is used to tell the drive to ignore bad reads and retry. In more severe cases, the platters are removed in a clean room, and new drive heads installed.
Board failure - board gets fried for whatever reasons - dodgy power supplies etc.
This is easier to repair - usually you can replace the board with another one from the same series (or repair the board).
In your case, its probably a head crash. Depending on what you've done since then it may be possible to recover data, but its expensive and time consuming. Most data recovery goes to about 2000 rmb (and you still need to buy another hard drive for the data). So you are looking at about 2500-3000rmb +- for recovery.
If you are in that budget, you can give us a call.
Recovery from dead drives typically takes between 2 weeks to a month though, depending what needs to be done.

If it's a mechanical failure inside the drive itself recovery is still possible but the price is very different from the one mentioned above. All data can be recovered even from hardware failure inside the drive, but use a professional service if that's the case (there are only 2 out there; OnTrack and IBAS)
The question is really if your data is worth that much money? |

Ontrack Easy Recovery can help as long as the hard drive can be detected by a system. But if it is a hardware problem, meaning the drive cannot be detected at all, its a different story i guess. |
