Post subject: Housing in JinQaio area

We have just spent the weekend looking at Housing in the JinQiao area, all the usual suspects: Vizcaya, Greenhills, Shimao Lakeside etc.
I have looked through previous posts for reccommendations, but most of them seem rather old.
I would appreciate some upto date comments/advice as to which are the better compounds and what are the average monthly rental charges especially from anyone currently living in the areas mentioned, (I wasn't totally convinced by the agent).

We are pretty limited in our choice of area as my daughter will hopefully be going to Dulwich and my wife wishes to be within "walking distance" of the school.

Hi. It all depends on your price range and what you are looking for. We live in Shimao Lakeside and really like it. It's a nice, friendly compound, but doesn't have the facilities that Greenhills and Viscaya have. Viscaya was totally beyond our price range and the houses we could afford at Green Hills were run down and small. Apartments at Shimao start from $1000 - $2500 (2/3 beds) $3000-$3500 (4 beds) We have a 4 bed apartment which is huge, with 2 big balconies. The town houses start from $3500 - $5000 (the upstairs ones have larger outdoor areas) The buildings are well built / finished and well maintained. The management centre is okay, if you have patience! There is a good mix of expat and Chinese families living here. It's about a 10 min walk to Dulwich and all amenities are nearby. However the club house is nowhere near as good as the other compounds and there is no outdoor pool. I used www.joannarealestate.com.cn to research rental costs before I came out here, it might help you. Remember a good agent will try to negotiate the rent down for you. We also got Satellite TV, Internet connection and 2 years subscription, club membership and parking space included in the rental.
